About this Cook
My mom was a stay at home mom, so she did all sorts of cooking and baking as I was growing up. She made sure I knew how to handle myself in a kitchen, and taught me all about spices and how to use them.
My favorite things to cook
Lately, I love trying to immitate dishes I have in restaurants. My boyfriend always says, he would rather stay home and eat my cooking because it is better tasting and healthier than what we find eating out.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Mom's homemade strawberry jam (now it's me and my boyfriend doing the picking and canning). Roast beef and yorkshire pudding (my grandparents were from England, so this is a must for special occasions).
My cooking triumphs
Making my boyfriend's Mom a birthday cake from scratch ("Dark Chocolate Cake I", "Chocolate Ganache Icing" for filling) using fondant and homemade chocolate flowers("Plastic Chocolate")that looked professional.(Mom said it was one of the nicest things anyone ever did for her).
My cooking tragedies
My first pie crust attempt for my boyfriend's birthday. I actually cried over it. Actually, I guess it wasn't a total tragedy, since it came together enough in the end to have a passable pie. And it tasted great.

Coconut Blueberry Cake
I used 1/4 cup applesauce and 1/4 cup oil instead of 1/2 cup oil. It was delicious! It looked like too much glaze when I was putting it on, but it soaked into the cake a bit, and turned out just right. Made this for fiance's grandma, have never seen her eat so much cake!

Goat Cheese Stuffed Lamb Burgers
Loved the flavor, but half the cheese melted out since I didn't make sure they were sealed. My sister in law recommended I try freezing the goat cheese in a flat disc shape, then wrapping the meat around, so I will try that next time.

Five Minute Ice Cream
Love this recipe! Followed it exact, keeps well for a couple days in the freezer. Wonderfully creamy taste, much richer than store bought ice cream. Quick and easy, you'd never know it only took 5 minutes.
