I am giving this recipe 4 stars because everyone else at my house liked it but, honestly, I thought it was only worth about 1 star. Perhaps 40 minutes is too long to cook the "cake" but it was dry and hard. The egg white on the top of the cake stops the moisture from the cream and strawberries from merging with the cake so if you like a dry shortcake this is good - I like the juice from the strawberries to go into the cake so this is not the cake for me.
