About this Cook
I love, love, love to cook, but unfortunately my crazy scheduled does not allow much time for this. (I teach kindergarten!) And my husband absolutely hates to cook! So when I am home (and have all the available ingredients), I love using this site to find inventive new things to try.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake: cakes, cookies, and the like. However, now that my husband and I are slimming down and getting healthy, I am more interested in learning to cook healthy alternatives for dinner. My favorites are Greek food, Middle Eastern and Italian pasta dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up, my family & I (seven of us in all!) sat down to dinner every single night. I hope to continue that tradition with my family, and my husband and I sit down and eat dinner together every night.
My cooking triumphs
I am willing to try just about anything. I am getting acquainted to my crockpot, since everyone raves about how easy it is to cook with one, and I have had great results. I also make great homemade cookies (never the slice-and-bake)!!!
My cooking tragedies
Most recently, I cooked Thanksgiving dinner from start to finish by myself. I had never cooked a whole turkey before in my life, but was determined to try it. I didn't know how long a turkey needed to thaw, and didn't thaw it all the way through. Then I didn't know how long to cook it, and overestimated the cooking time. The top of the turkey was dried out, and the bottom was still raw. It was quite disgusting! I'll stick with turkey breast next year.

Blonde Brownies I
Warning: do not make this recipe unless you are prepared to eat the entire thing by yourself!!! It is delicious! I did not make any changes except to sub butterscotch chips for chocolate ones, and mix them into the batter. YUM!

Portobello Penne Pasta Casserole
The dish lookd great while cooking and my husband and I thought it would taste as good, but the soy sauce really turned us off. I think I would make again without the soy sauce, it just overpowered the whole dish.

No Bake Deluxe Hamburger Cookies
This summer, my kindergarteners and I made them at summer school. They were a HIT! The kids were so engaged and thought it was very entertaining. Most ate them too :) Thanks!
