I have been married for 23 years. My husband's name is Jerry. I have 2 children, Tara is 22 and Christoper is 20. I enjoy cooking when I have time.
Cooking is becoming a challenge for me
as my husband and both my children have
kidney disease. The "kidney diet" is low
protein, low sodium, low potassium and low phorphorus.
My favorite things to cook
We love Mexican food. We have been to Mexico twice on mission trips and the
food was wonderful. I love to experiment with recipes. Mine never tastes quite the same as the authenic
mexican dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have several holiday cooking traditions. We have ham on Easter, turkey on Thanksgiving and we love casseroles at Christmas. My favorite cooking tradition is Halloween, every year I make a huge pot of chili and my parents, sisters and their families and some of my husbands families all come to our house for chili either before or after trick or treating. My nieces love chili and I made it one year on Halloween and my then 7 year old niece decided it would be our new Halloween tradition.
My cooking triumphs
My aunt gave me a recipe for mashed potatoes using sour cream and cream
cheese. It is now one of my most requested dishes. Everyone at work loves them and almost every pot luck
dinner we have they are requested.
My cooking tragedies
I have had several over the years. One
of the worst and most embarassing was the year I fixed my first Thanksgiving
turkey. My in laws were over and I put
the turkey in the oven upside down. It
still tasted pretty good, however, I still get harrassed about it on occasion.
