As a graduate student and part time employee, I don't have a lot of time to cook. I just joined here to get more ideas for quick and healthy meals. I have to admit however, I have a real SWEET-TOOTH and love to bake.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love holiday meals. My dad's side of the family is Jewish so the holiday foods are wonderful in flavor but not very healthy. My mom's side of the family is German so I have learned many wonderful holiday meals and desserts from my grandmother. The smell of holiday food brings a smile to my face!
My cooking tragedies
I lived on a lemon orchard in college and worked for rent (I understand why those buggers are so expensive now...very hard to take care of) For father's day one year I wanted to bake a pie for the ranch owner and I used my mom's lemon meringue pie recipe, a sure winner. However I used "lemons" from the little tree close to the house which was actually a lime tree and the limes were so ripe they were turning yellow and I thought they were lemons. The effort was appreciated but the flavor was awful!
