Grilled Zucchini II

Reviewed: Jun. 9, 2009
My husband and I both thought these tasted like warm pickles. I kept my opinion to myself to see if it was just me, but then he pushed his portion onto my plate and said the same thing!

Secret Kiss Cupcakes

Reviewed: Feb. 28, 2009
Soooo great!~ I used golden cake mix with milk chocolate frosting (all store bought; I was on a time crunch). I just dropped the kisses in and gave them a little tap. Don't worry about a large part of the top of the kiss poking out; the cupcake will cover is while baking. These were a hit. What a great idea!!!

Korean BBQ Chicken Marinade

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
My review for this is a little odd. I reduced the marinade, as many others, thickened it and made a sauce. THIS was awesome. I love to used Wondra, as I find cornstarch tends to make this type of sauce "slimy". I have come to decide, however I'm not a fan of poultry marinaded in soy sauce (especially with lemon or lime juice as it tends to "cook" the chicken). I feel it just comes out with an odd taste and texture. Next time I make this I will grill unmarinaded chicken by itself and use the sauce to cover the dish(I served the chicken atop rice with steamed brocoli on the side)

Best Green Bean Casserole

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
I couldn't figure out why this recipe missed the mark for me. I realized later that the traditional recipe from Cambells has soy sauce in it. I think this recipe would be perfect with the addition of that ingredient.

Split Pea and Ham Soup II

Reviewed: Jan. 3, 2009
This was good, but Im made the mistake of adding more peas because I like a thicker soup. Please don't make this mistake, as my wholoe batch is ruined. The flavor was pretty staight forward; no surprises here.

Ham and Cheese Puffs

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2008
These were so great! I am desperately looking for new ham recipes to use up Christmas leftovers. I just came upon this and whipped it up in just a few minutes and my husband and I were so happy! I only used ham and cheddar because it was all I had on hand. Thanks for sharing!

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2008
I just made this to bring for tomorrow's Thanksgiving dinner. I am kind of panicking because all I taste is the topping. I couldn't taste the bottom layer at all. Of course everyone will say they like it; it tastes just like candy! Making this from scratch, (aka not canned yams) I really hoped for a winner. I will update my review/stars after tomorrow.UPDATED: This really turned out great. Everyone loved it!

Campfire Reubens

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
This method reuined my ruebens, so I had to make a second batch with the skillet method. I was drawn to grilling because I do not have a large enough non-stick skillet to cook 2 sandwiches. I followed the directions to a T, and my bread was, burned, soggy, and stuck to the foil (along with the soggy mess of toppings). This was the only recipe which didn't call for buttering or oiling the bread prior to cooking, so I thought it would be a healthier alternative. From now on I will load the toppings on two slices of buttered rye and cook till golden and melted in a skillet (I'll either get a larger pan, or we'll eat at different times!) The recipe has flawless reviews other than mine, but it really didn't work for me.

Bud's Potato Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
While this was really tasty, I'm wondering if I could've achieved this flavor with Miracle Whip and additional sugar.I'm just not quite sure, but don't know if I will continue to marinate potatos for potato salad. Don't get me wrong; it is good, just don't know if worth the lengthy (though easy) prep. If you enjoy sweet salads I'd give this a try. UPDATE: hubby just told me he didn't care for it; he loves german potato salad and sweet dishes of the like. He told me to stick with the gourmet deli and skip the hassle of making my own

Artichoke Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 21, 2008
This recipe really didn't work for us at all. We love all of the ingredients, but the final product was really bad. I agree with the review by ripley. The chicken was so bland, even though I added salt and pepper before adding the artichoke mixture. We couldn't even eat it, and ended up filling up on the rice and veggies I prepared with it. I made the recipe as is, and can't imagine trying to modify it in order to make again.

Greek Style Garlic Chicken Breast

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
This was horribly bland for us. I have since found other Greek chicken recipes on this site I will try. We ended up having to use dipping sauce for the chicken, which didn't fit in with my Greek theme at all. This has so many great reviews however, that I guess it just wasn't our cup of tea!

Greek Style Potatoes

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2008
These were pretty good, but not EXACTLY what I was hoping for. I would cut the oil in half; if you'd believe, it was overpowering. I'd add more lemon and maybe some oregano. I did cook for 2 hours because I had the time, but I'm sure shortcuts could be made here.

Shrimp Scampi Bake

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2008
This was really great! Made as is, and both hubby and I loved it. It is a little too rich to be in my regular rotation, however. I like how the dijon kicks it up a notch; regualr scampi can be a tad boring. Thanks for sharing!

The Perfect Basic Burger

Reviewed: Oct. 9, 2008
Fantastic! Exactly what I was looking for. It did not taste like my meatloaf or meatballs at all (I make sure they are all distinctive). This burger was perfectly seasoned, and complimented all of my toppings (I'm a traditional ketchup, mustard, onions; my husband prefers BBQ sauce and onions) I'm so glad I came upon this recipe. Please note: this recipe is what it says; "basic burger".

Broccoli Beef I

Reviewed: Sep. 30, 2008
The flavor was pretty ok, but my husband said I should have marinated the beef first. I wasn't crazy about the texture of the sauce. I doubled it, but if I were to make again I would cut the flour in half. I thought it was too thick and "slimy". I also added crushed red pepper which helped things some.

Spinach Brownies

Reviewed: Jun. 14, 2008
My mom has made these for years.....she calls them spinach squares. We like to use Jack cheese in combination with the mozz to give it a little kick. I agree with other reviewers that the butter can probably be cut way back without sacrificing taste, but I haven't yet tried this modification.

Black Beans and Rice

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2008
This was just ok. My husband really didn't like it at all. It's way too bland as is, and would require too much tweaking for me to make again. I also had to add WAY more water than recipe called for.

Oatmeal Cookies Light

Reviewed: May 7, 2008
These were good, but not the best. I doubled the flour and the dough was still tough to manage (they did not fall apart or spread too thin on the baking sheet, however). The taste was not overly sweet, which is what my husband prefers. I'm on a diet, so I guess we both win with this recipe! I found 12 minutes in the oven worked for me.

Pollo Fajitas

Reviewed: Apr. 17, 2008
I have been making these for so long and can't believe I forgot to rate it. I make the marinade as is, except in addition to chili powder I add cayenne. To save fat and calories I cook the chicken in a pan sprayed with Pam, and sautee the veggies in the remaining marinade and a little chicken broth. This way this dish is so healthy. We think it's absolutely delicious.
