About this Cook
I'm a happy newlywed who is discovering just how good it feels to cook healthy, delicious meals for my little family of two.
My favorite things to cook
I love making meals that have wholesome ingredients and that are low in fat/calories. I am the queen of substitutions as long as they are subtle enough that my husband can't tell the difference!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family background is Cuban, so I grew up eating bistecitos, platanitos maduros, ropa vieja, arroz con pollo, etc cooked by my Abuela. This is my version of comfort food.
My cooking triumphs
Making Cuban steaks and black beans and rice for my husband's EXTREMELY Southern family was quite an unexpected success.
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make hamburgers with the extra, extra lean ground beef. What a disaster!

Triple Layer Banana Cream Pie Bars
This is delicious and simple. I made a smaller version of this using this recipe's proportions as a guide. It was a hit even though the "bars" crumbled coming out of the dish and turned into more of a triple layer pudding.

Rum Cookie Balls
Made this as written except used coconut flavored rum and rolled them in crushed almonds at the end for extra crunch. Perhaps better with only 1/4 cup of rum? Also, be sure to grind up your vanilla wafers and nuts in a food processor because this really affects the texture!
