About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
I LOVE trying new recipes and have found so many great ones on this website. I send out a big thank you to all of you for submitting your favorites so that I have new favorites.
My favorite family cooking traditions
As a little girl, I used to love to watch my mother make holiday meals. She never stressed out over it, and I admired her for that. I couldn't wait to grow up and learn to do what she did. Over the past several years, I have inherited the tradition of making Thanksgiving dinner. It is my absolute favorite meal to cook. There is a real art to correctly timing all of the dishes. Last Thanksgiving, I had a broken left leg and a broken right ankle, so I couldn't host the dinner. I MISSED IT so much!! I almost can't wait until this Thanksgiving to get back to it! My cornbread sausage stuffing is a big hit with my family.
My cooking triumphs
I created my own version of a chicken pot pie. Not being terribly creative, I was extremely proud of that. Because of my lack of creativity, I had to learn to follow a recipe to a "T". With experience now under my belt, I can add or subtract from a recipe to adjust to my own tastes, as well as those I'm cooking for.
My cooking tragedies
I have a bit of trouble with roast beef recipes. Anything cooked in liquid dries out, even if cooked rare to medium.

Honey Butter Yule Ham
My boyfriend and I absolutely love ham, and I was exicted to see a recipe with such good reviews. We were disappointed in this glaze. It is just too bland. Plus, it was very greasy. Ham makes enough grease without the added butter. You could maybe overlook the extra grease if flavor was added, but it wasn't.

Throw Together Brownies
I followed the suggestions of a few others and used Blackberry Brandy. The flavor was good, but the brownies stuck to the bottom of the pan. I made 2 batches: one with M&Ms and one with chocolate chips. The flavor was awesome, but they looked horrible.

Outback Onion Soup
Wow....is this delicious!!! I think it is just about as good as The Outback, although I know it's not exactly. My boyfriend and I asked the manager at our local Outback for the recipe, and he told us there was white wine in it, so this can't be exactly it. However, it is REAL close. The only suggestions I have is that you start out with 1/2 of a teaspoon of pepper and then adjust to your taste. The other suggestion to avoid lumps is to use Wondra flour. It doesn't clump.
