About this Cook
I'm married to a great dude, I have a job that I love most of the time and I have a floppy furry little Lhasa Apso that has to be the sweetest dog ever. I love food, but not just any run of the mill junk. I love GOOD food and I love finding others who enjoy food and cooking as much as I do.
My favorite things to cook
I do a lot of gluten-free cooking as my husband is allergic to wheat. It was a bit overwhelming at first because wheat is in just about everything. Turns out that it's not the end of the world - it's actually forced us to eat healthier, fresher foods. No more processed foods. Hooray!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I love hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas. But my favorite family cooking tradition is when I'm able to have a girls only family night with my mom, sisters, aunts and girl cousins. That and making povatica bread (which I don't like all that much) with the same sisters, aunts and my grammy.
My cooking triumphs
Getting better at asian food: preparing sauces and not being afraid of flavors.
My cooking tragedies
I once had a craving for something with shrimp. I just wasn't sure what so I got online and found a recipe for shrimp newburg. I should have known that it would turn into a gross orange mess when I saw that it called for ketchup (?!?). In the eleven years we've been together it's the only meal my husband refused to eat. I don't blame him.

Black Beans and Pork Chops
This was delicious! A little salty because of the canned beans, but easy to remedy. Like one other reviewer I seasoned and browned the chops before putting them in the crock pot for 6 hours. The pork was so tender it fell apart. I served the beans over rice. A little squeeze of fresh lime and some avocado slices round it out for a quick healthy meal.

Amazing Gluten-free Layer Bars
WAIT!!!! Before you make this recipe you should know that butterscotch morsels contain barley extract, which is not gluten-free. I would stick with semi-sweet chocolate morsels.
