About this Cook
I have 8 children (5 daughters 3 sons), all grown now,and 10 1/2 granddaughters 2 of which we are raising. I have been driving a school bus since my children were young so I could have the same time off of school as they did. It worked great for me and I still love my job and the other 140 children that I call mine, too. I am married to the most wonderful man in the whole world and I thank God for him regularly. We have known each other since high school and had our first child at 16. (both of us) Our oldest is 31 and our youngest is 19. I like to cook as long as it isn't something that I had to cook for so many years to strech the food to feed so many. Like spagetti...I can cook that stuff but I hate it! There are only 4 of us to cook for now on a regular basis and I am having to learn how to cook in smaller portions. I have a freezer full of left overs and wouldnt have to cook again for a year if I would use that stuff...So mostly I just play in the kitchen now...
My favorite things to cook
I like to find recipes that are fun to make w/my granddaughters...Parents are so busy makeing a living and don't have the time so I get the honor...
My favorite family cooking traditions
I have a large family(8 children)and when my family was young I began a tradition of putting everyone to work for the Christmas Feast we have every year! EVERYONE from youngest to oldest chooses one veggie dish and one dessert to fix so I don't spend the whole holiday doing all the cooking by myself. It is funny how it evolved through the years...Everyone knew what the others were bringing because they always chose what they liked the most to make. The baby of the family always got to make the corn and he wasn't a sweet eater so he made stuffed celery and deviled eggs! He hates cooking but he still participates...I always cook the Ham and the Turkey because w/that many children we made everyone happy by having both. The family has expanded to the spouses of 4 of the 8 and 10 1/2 granddaughters my mom and mentally retarded sister and even a couple of my in-laws parents. 28 here last Christmas and they all fixed their 2 dishes...I did have to increase my part to 2 hams and 2 turkeys
My cooking triumphs
Most of my cooking triumphs have come from recipes that I got on this sight! The most popular one being a clam chowder recipe that I make for out Church Pot Lucks once a month! It is always a hit and there are never any left overs...I also make a mean BBQ Brisket...
My cooking tragedies
about 20 yrs ago I followed my grandmothers recipe and made the most absolute worst Thanksgiving dressing anyone could ever make! My husband managed to choke some down w/a smile on his face. The rule was that the children had to try a little of everything...Once I sat down and took my first bite I almost embarrassed myself at the table by gagging...I already had by being the one who had created that nasty tasting dressing. I jumped up grabbed my husbands plate and scraped his dressing back into the pan and gave the kids permission to do the same...which they did gladly. I took the dressing off the table and threw it out for the birds much to the relief of the rest of my family...I knew my husband loved me when he tried so valiantly to eat w/out complaint...I realized just how terrible the dressing really was the next day... when I went out the next day to retrieve my pan where I threw the stuff not only had the dogs and the chickens turned their noses up at it (or beaks in the chicken

Strawberry Delight Dessert Pie
I love this recipe and like many others I ALWAYS get requests for the recipe. This recipe is also good w/many different types of Berries...black berries, rasberries, blueberries, boysenberries...I even tried it w/fresh peaches...I recommend that you stick w/the berries, though...

Quick and Easy Clam Chowder
Would never had tried this recipe except for the reviews...add a few potatoes freeze the left overs you can not tell that there are canned soups involved. It's great served w/the "Cheddar biscuits I" that are also found on this sight. An easy meal all the way around!

Potato Soup V
A fantastically versital potatoe soup! With 12 of us living in our home I have to satisfy many different tastes! I crumbled bacon and shredded some cheddar and put it on the table for those that wanted it. Me and the kids loved it the way it was but my husband loves more spice. I added a teaspoon of thyme and some onion powder to his portion of the soup and set his favorite HOT sauce beside him so he could add what he wanted. EVERYONE was happy because the original is so easy to adapt to the individual. I served this soup w/a recipe I also got on this sight called CHEESE Biscuit I...Satisfying and filling and easy and YUMMY! I give 5 stars to any recipe that can please that many of us at once!
