About this Cook
I work full time as a doctor. I'm just starting to cook meals as opposed to just baking desserts and cakes. This has been a challenge set by my boyfriend who loves his food. It has been alot of fun learning to cook meat, vegetables, noodles, rice and pasta. I haven't burned down the kitchen yet. I am now living in Sydney and have been married for a matter of weeks! It's been a steep learning curve - juggling my schedule and my husband's. We are still trying to stay healthy and minimize take out during the week.
My favorite things to cook
I will always love baking muffins and cakes. But I now enjoy making soups and noodle dishes. I now really love making soups and slow cooker meals.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I bake all the birthday cakes in our family and make the dessert for Christmas lunch.
My cooking triumphs
A prawn and flat leaf parsley stew, a chicken and soy bean udon noodle soup, pear and chocolate crumble. Generally my muffins and cakes are always sucessful and enjoyed.
My cooking tragedies
I once made sweet muffins with chinese 5 spice instead of mixed spice. Another time, I tried to make a dieter's dish of spinach patties in tomato sauce - the patties tasted like soap and fell apart before I could put them in the sauce.

Sweet Potato Pound Cake
Thanks for a great recipe, Anne. I made this at the weekend and it was a perfect cake to take into work. Not too sweet, even with the glaze, easy to cut and pretty light. I made the following modifications based on previous reviewers: - half butter substituted for apple sauce - more spice with 1tsp mixed spice, 1/2 tsp ginger - baked for an hour I should have put the glaze on earlier, I waited 20 minutes before inverting and glazing, the cake wasn't warm enough to fully absorb the glaze. Will definitely make this again.

Teriyaki Tuna
Easy, healthy and tasty recipe. Next time, I will add some cooking mirin and sugar to my marinade.

Chocolate Zucchini Cake III
The best chocolate cake I have baked. Thank you for posting, Sandy. I followed the advice of using apple sauce in place of half the oil. I made a chocolate frosting with creamed butter, icing sugar, cocoa and milk and it was a perfect match. The cake is so moist and I can convince myself that it is healthy!!
