About this Cook
My family and I live in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We have a blended family and the kids are now teenagers and older. My family eats a lot of food!
My favorite things to cook
Entree's that make good gravy from the flavors of good ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Favorite family tradition is sitting down to dinner together. Also, when we are at our vacation house with friends, each group of kids has to cook dinner one night.
My cooking triumphs
Any time I can make a meal that the whole family loves is a triumph. With so many people I can run into the problem of one or two people that don't like a certain flavor.
My cooking tragedies
Every now and then I try something that just doesn't turn out good.

George Washington Chocolate Cake
This is very similar to a recipe that I had years ago, and then had lost. I was happy to find this. The cake has a rich flavor and great texture.

Luscious Lima Bean Soup II
This recipe was delicious! Everybody in the family loved it, even my daughter who doesn't like lima beans. I didn't have bacon, so I cut a small ham steak into small cubes, and browned them first. I put one clove of garlic in, based on other reader reviews. Also, I cooked it in a pot on the stove top, because I started in the afternoon. It was ready in 1 1/2 to 2 hours. I'm surprised that some people found it lacking in flavor. The flavors of the vegetables, meat and seasonings really came out after cooking a while. Really good.

Bottom Round Roast with Onion Gravy
This was really good, with dark, rich gravy. I had to make some adjustments, though. I put a tiny bit of oil under the onions, and after the meat had browned good on all sides to make the "brown bits", I added at least 2 cups of water for the roast to simmer in. Since it's a bottom round, I wanted to be sure it was tender.
