Tater Tot Hot Dish I

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2009
This is just a little friendly FYI for those new to making Casseroles a.k.a. Hot Dishes: you always cook the the meat (whatever kind that may be, except tuna) before putting it into the casserole dish. It will not tell you to do this in many hot dish recipes, because it is, for the most part, understood. You should use raw meat in a casserole/hot dish only when the recipe tells you specifically not to cook it before hand. I hope this helps. Great recipe. It is an old common dish that most people will love.

Baked Beef Stew

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
This recipe is excellent. I followed it exactly. I did not have any 'small tapioca balls' that others have mentioned, I think because I pulled the stew out of the oven after an hour and stirred it up good, re-covered and baked for another hour. I served it with a good, hearty bread.

Creamed Chicken 'n' Veggies

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2008
I followed this recipe exactly. I really liked how it turned out. I really wasn't expecting much since I was just trying to use up some ingredients that I had on hand; but I was really pleased.

Maple Salmon

I did not like this recipe as much as most people (and I am kind of a sweet-tooth) I think it lacked "something". It turned out well, however. To me, it was just so-so.

Easy and Delicious Chicken

It was an even better recipe when I substituted spicy spaghetti sauce for regular...I think it needed that little extra zip.

Shepherd's Pie

excellent recipe. Shepherd's pie is traditionally supposed to be plain and simple. Even though there are simple ingredients, it is far from plain.

Being from North Dakota, I have been eating venison since childhood. This is by far the best venison that I have had.

Fast Creamy Tomato Penne

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2006
this recipe is excellent. I tried to stay true to the ingredients; however, I did make a few minor changes. I used low fat sour cream (not as creamy, but more healthy), red pepper spaghetti sauce for zip (don't worry...this did not make it spicy) and I used ground turkey because I had it on hand and again it is lean. it turned out super and I will use this one again and again.

Cheezy Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
this is a recipe that most other people may like. I do not like the texture of scalloped-like potatoes. the combination of ingredients; however, were very good. I may use this recipe again and just adapt it to be more like mashed potatoes.

Pistachio Fluff Fruit Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2006
I love fruit salads in general so it comes to no suprise that I like this one too. sometimes I like to add more texture to them though, by adding things like pretzels, cookies, coconut, or nuts. It is pretty good, just not the best that I have had.

this recipe has been a very popular one in my family for years, however we like it with a little more texture, so we double the cottage cheese. pretty darn close to perfect

Jack's Beanie-Weenies

Reviewed: Aug. 3, 2006
this is a great recipe for kids to help out in the kitchen. By the way, the alcohol is burned off during the boiling process for those moms who are worried about the beer thing. I cut the hot dogs with an egg slicer (I imagine that the kids would love to do that part). the only thing that I did a little different was add 1/4 cup ketchup for zip. great for tail gates, potlucks, and bbq's!
