I am an almost 30 year old who loves to cook and try out recipes on my friends and family. I love my pets like they are my kids-too bad they can't give me feedback on my cooking! :) I love to watch cooking shows, and I am continuely looking for the differences in Southern and Northern food preparation. I am getting ready to go to grad school in the fall of 2008, but other than that, just living each day to the fullest.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook would have to be different pasta dishes, although I love to cook anything that I think might taste good. I look for the 5 star rated recipes on this website and try them out! I find that I have like 20,000 cakes I want to try out on here. Time to get baking!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is a baking genius. Her bread, pie crust, cinnamon rolls, and cakes are the best I have ever had (next to my Grandma, who she learned it all from). She is especially good at bread, but doesn't make it anymore because she doesn't have time. I think that is a tragedy! It is my goal this year to master both her pie crust AND her bread making skills.
My cooking triumphs
I found a stuffing recipe just like my mom's on this website (my mom can't give me measurements, as she does everything by eye and taste), and even though the preparation was different, the flavor was EXACT. I also have figured out how to make a perfect bundt cake that doesn't stick to the pan and stays moist, and I can make a mean lasagna that is better than anyone elses (according to everyone else!).
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make an orange meringue pie when I was 16. That was a disaster. My family humored me and ate it, but they didn't want to. I also have messed up alfredo sauce a million times. I tried making cake balls--DISASTER. My Christmas cookie recipes usually all end up bad. I don't get it!
