I started out thinking that I would never learn to cook well. Especially the idea of cooking for guests made me a little nervous. At this point, I am much more secure in my cooking capabilities, but I would like to continue to improve and expand my reperatoire.
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking desserts. Not because I eat them, but because my friends like American desserts so much.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My favorite tradition follows my childhood tradition of baking a sweet bread and potato salad together with sliced meat for Christmas eve.
My cooking triumphs
My biggest triumph was a birthday party that I planned for my husband several years ago. We had 40 people for dinner and I prepared the entire meal from starters to desserts by myself and people raved about everything. Who would have ever thought!
My cooking tragedies
I remember the first time I tried to bake a pie with one of my friends. We were just out of college and cooking a Thanksgiving dinner for a bunch of people. She and I spent a half hour trying to roll the pie out, and I don't know what else we did to it, but the crust was so hard that we ended up playing frisbi with it in the park after we had eaten the rest of the dinner! It has remained a standing joke between us 20 years later.
