German Chocolate Cake Frosting II

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2009
LOVED THIS (and I have never liked german chocolate cake)! Made this for a friend's birthday. I substituted brown sugar for the white sugar to give it a browner color and did add some corn starch.

Chow Mein Noodle Casserole

My mom used to make something like this when I was growing up. Very tasty. Good for leftover lunches also. I did use cream of mushroom soup.

Angel's Pasta

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2009
The pasta was a bit dry. I also thought there was not enough veggies for the amount of pasta, but with a little tweaking this could be really good. So, as written and followed a little boring and dry. Update: So, I halved the amount of pasta and used a can of diced tomatoes. It was obviously less dry and still tasty.

Tasty Lentil Tacos

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
This is so good. I used to replace the meat with red beans, but I won't anymore. I had never cooked with lentils before, either. I didn't tell the kids what it was until after they had eaten it and everyone cleaned their plates. I did decrease the amount of cumin, but that is just a personal preference. Yum!

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

This was okay; I've had better honey mustard marinades. It was kind of bitter.

Braided Easter Egg Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 13, 2009
It was very pretty, but not great tasting. I needed to add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of extra flour before I could knead it properly; it was so sticky. The bread was slightly sweet, but so dry and very crumbly. I took it out at 42 minutes and it probably should have been taken out much sooner.

Chicken Lo Mein

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2009
I really liked this!!! The b/f thought it was good and would eat it again. He does not like mushrooms, so I substituted some broccoli. We were burned on another asian recipe with too much soy sauce, so I was hesitant to put the whole amount in and used less. NOT necessary. Next time I will use the recommended amount. I will probably add more veggies too, the peas could definitly be doubled. I love snow peas!!!

Mock Tuna Salad

Reviewed: Jan. 29, 2009
This is a good alternative. It does not taste like tuna salad, but I dont think it should. It is much more dry than tuna salad because of the lack of the tuna moisture, but that was not bad thing. Followed the recipe as written. Easy to make. It was good on toast. I wondered if other people thought about Hummus with a kick as they ate it?

Creamy Spinach Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
Directions were easy to follow and complete. Ingredients basically on hand. This is a good soup, but for my tastes, it is not a favorite. I will make it again, I just wasn't overly thrilled. PS. I did follow the recipe as written, unlike foodlover

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
I only used half the recommended cream cheese and than 4 0z of sour cream at the end. (Sorry! I hate it when people change the recipe). I also used reduced fat cream cheese and sour cream. I liked it and so did the fam. The chicken was very tender and really tasty. It would be good even without the sauce. I did not cook the chicken as recommended, however, because it would have dried out and burned! I had it on low for only a couple of hours and it was almost done, so I turned it to warm for another two hours. Easy recipe with easy ingredients.

Bean Quesadillas

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2009
I really enjoyed these. For my tastes, it did not need any extra flavor or spice. The vegetables and cheese were very flavorful. My two year old also enjoyed them and he does not like anything right now! Easy to make, ingredients on hand, and followed recipe as written. Oh, the one thing I found a little helpful was when I was frying the tortilla with the veggies and cheese, I did not put the second tortilla on top. Then when it was time to flip it over, I picked the tortilla with veggies up with a spatula, placed the second tortilla in the pan and then put the first tortilla on top. I found that I lost less veggies and it was less cumbersome than trying to flip the whole quesadilla over.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
Followed the directions as written. Easy to make and the dough was easy to work with. I did not enjoy the flavor of these cookies and they would be completely awash without the frosting. Also, anything thicker than 1/4 of an inch for cutting the cookies out was way too thick. I really like the recipe 'sugar cookies with buttercream frosting' and would recommend that over this one.

Gingerbread Men

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2008
I hate when people do this, but I did change the recipe, but only a little bit!! I added 1 tsp of vanilla, 1 tsp of ground cloves, and 1/2 tsp of nutmeg. I was worried after I read a reviewer say they were "just a brown cookie." I found this recipe with my small additions to be very good. Not overly spicey, easily chewed, and perfect for children. My son loved these (and the dough too, unfortunately!). I iced them with some powdered sugar, butter, and milk. Very nice for holiday plates.

Brown Sugar Meatloaf

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2008
This is so good! I followed the recipe exactly as written. Next time I will not use as much sugar, though. Update: I did use less sugar the second time and tried it as other reviewers have with the glaze on top instead of the bottom. The sugar and ketchup are meant to be on the bottom!! It is so much better that way. I don't know why that makes a difference, but it does!

Mocha Coffee

Reviewed: Nov. 3, 2008
I even used "brand name" coffee and it was just okay. The taste was fine, but it seemed a bit grainy to me. I wonder if this would be better if the unsweetened cocoa was replaced with chocolate syrup? Update: So, I tried this instead: 2 T of "international coffee-mocha" powder mix, a 6 oz cup of coffee and some milk. So good and not grainy at all.

Goulash Supreme

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2008
Recipe was easy to follow and quick. Ingredients on hand and nothing that comes from a specialty store. I cooked the noodles as recommended and they had a weird chewiness to them, not from being under cooked. Not too bland for me as some readers suggested, but I now know I HATE tomato paste. I will not add it again and maybe it will be better. Edit: I made this again without tomato paste and now it deserves 4 stars. So much better.

Slow Cooker Chicken and Dumplings

This is good. I added a bag a frozen vegetables too; everthing else, I did the same. When eaten as leftovers, the dumplings did get a bit gluey.
