I've tried to get this recipe from my sister-in-law for years. Finally got smart enough to look on allrecipes.com. Thanks, it is great. A note about thawing potatoes first. I had it recently at someone's and they did not thaw them. It was not good as the potatoes were not done. Thawing was a great hint. Again, great easy recipe.

I make this recipe often and don't use the fruit cocktail. I think that makes it six cup salad instead of five. It is really good though and keeps great in the fridge.

This was my first time making home made ice cream. It was a great hit with my family. My grandchildren said it was as good as their favorite ice cream store. I do think the chocolate chips should be VERY small or grated to make them a bit better. Thanks for the great recipe.
