About this Cook
I've just started a recipe column in my neighborhood newspaper. It's called "From the Dining Car", since I live in the historic Pullman neighborhood in Chicago. I would love to become a cook on a par with Paula Deen. (I've already got the humor part down pat!) Any marketing pros out there willing to do some pro bono work to get me started?
My favorite things to cook
I love my homemade fried chicken, spaghetti, nut wedges, mac and cheese, and gumbo.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My all-time favorite family recipe is the gumbo my mom would make every Christmas. I've continued the tradition. Anything else is just chicken soup!
My cooking triumphs
My biggest cooking triumph is when my mother told me she liked my fried chicken and spaghetti better than hers! And she taught me how to make them!
My cooking tragedies
They're better left unmentioned!

Grandmas Chicken Chardon
This is the ONLY way I bake chicken breasts now and it is the only recipe I've found that actually makes a moist chicken breast. My husband insists that I make this often -- and both of us are dark meat chicken eaters! I have passed this recipe on several times.

Toad in the Hole III
This was a total waste of 4 eggs! 8 sausages surrounded by a dry breadlike substance. I don't get what's supposed to be so good about this recipe. It was not the least bit flavorful and, who needs that much breading around sausages? Are you sure an ingredient wasn't left out? I know I won't be making it again.

Garlic Cheese Biscuits
If these aren't the easiest things to make, I don't know what is!! I added garlic powder to the batter and half again the amount of cheese (I love garlic and cheese!). I served them with homemade beef stew. My husband and I LOVED them! No additional butter needed -- they stand alone! He is now eating the rest of them for a late night snack. I'll definitely be making more tomorrow. They're great to make at the last minute because they only take 10 minutes to bake. I love this recipe!
