About this Cook
I'm a lover of the outdoors, of cooking, and of writing. My cooking style is more of a test and adjust method. I put together ingredients and adjust as needed, so I rarely have a set amount for a recipe. For those who like to experiment with flavors, you'll understand. For those just starting out cooking, my recipes may seem a bit frustrating.
My favorite things to cook
Virtually anything. I don't like baking too much because if you put too much of something in you tend to ruin the recipe - but most everything else can be 'created'.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family followed the belief that you should be open and try new things, new places. Some of my favorite memories are of finding a hole-in-the-wall diner or restaurant with amazing food. It helped us later in preparing food, in the "It needs to be zestier, like the pork in Colorado.." type way.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that is new, or has my family saying, "can you make this for my birthday meal" or "that is so good! let's make more."
My cooking tragedies
Too many to list. I see it as a chance to better my cooking though.

Spring Lime Tea Cookies
Decent, but not exactly my cup of tea (no pun intended). Though I like soft cookies, these were virtually falling apart. I had made a double batch, so I baked the first 2 trays as directed, but on the rest I baked longer by 3 to 4 minutes. They were more sturdy, and still maintained the softness. Good flavor though. Mixed some lime with cream cheese and powder sugar to ice some.

Nana's Apple Crisp
I've never made an apple crisp before, but knew I was in good hands when I saw the other reviews. I normally don't change up a recipe before I try it as is, but I did this time around. Instead of sprinkling the extra tablespoon of cinnamon over the top, I mixed it in with the apples. I also sprinkled brown sugar over the top once all put together. My family loved it - definitely a keeper!

Chewy Coconut Bars
I followed this recipe exactly and really liked it. I made a variety of cookies/bars for Christmas this year and this one got rave reviews. Still, I think I agree with other users that it could've used a bit more zip. Not a nut person but will follow other suggestions and add a tad more vanilla and coconut.
