About this Cook
I am married and have two daughters (16 and 12). The girls are picky eaters and the husband will eat anything I put on the table (bless his heart, he's been very patient through the years while I've learned to cook). I have evolved and now I love to cook and like trying new things or re-inventing all the old recipes so no one gets bored.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and try all sorts of salad recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The holiday baking season when the whole family gets involved in choosing new recipes as well as preparing the same tried and true creations we use every year. When the weather starts getting cooler outside - around Oct here - I love making breads and stews.
My cooking triumphs
Anything I fix that everyone at the table loves and asks for again.
My cooking tragedies
The first time I tried my Mother's recipe for my favorite childhood cake and it turned out really spongy. I remember trying to break it, but it would only bend! Oh, and my first pancake which my husband still laughs about after all these years.

Slow Cooker Beef Stew I
This is excellent for a stew made in the crockpot. I prefer mine made on the stove, but being a working mom I needed a quick way to put together a hearty meal. I made exactly as written and may make some minor adjustments next time I make it just to experiment. Some people made time consuming changes and that's fine, but the point of using the crockpot during the week to me is ease of preparation and cleanup. This is a keeper.

Cream Cheese Frosting II
This is the best thing I have ever tasted in my life. I could live off of it. I added a little more powdered sugar because I needed it to hold together a carrot cake wreck that I made, and it did the job perfectly. Next time I will make exactly as written and I can hardly wait. I imagine that it would be wonderful on pumpkin bread or bars.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake
I don't even like carrot cake, but this was fantastic. I had several people tell me that it's the best they ever had. I am not a cake baker. Always afraid of the exact measurements concept, but I tried it, and it turned out great except I couldn't get it out of the pan. (I made it as a 2-layer cake) I ended up using a spatula and lots of nerves to finally get it free. I greased and floured the pans pretty liberally, so I don't know what the deal is with that. Maybe I cooked it too long. I don't know, but it was great. As other reviewers suggested, I used Cream Cheese Icing II from this site, and it covered up all the dents from getting it out of the pan. Really good together. I will make it again, probably soon, except I'll cut down on the pineapple. It's a very forgiving recipe.
