I am a teacher by day and a home chef at night. Actually I love to cook for company! I like to surprise them with a special dish that I have tried on my own. It's such a pleasure when I see people enjoying themselves and the food that I am serving.
My favorite things to cook
I like an array of foods. I enjoy making foods that take all day because the aroma in the house is so welcoming when people walk in. I also enjoy different types of salads and appetizers that I can bring on picnics so that people can try them out and be delighted by what is being served.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I will always remember my mom making her famous meatballs and sauce. She doesn't even have a recipe for it but when peope come over they can't have just one. I will always remember my mom frying them and the aromas of the sauce and the meatballs. It is so welcoming when you walk into the house on a Sunday and know that the family will be enjoying each other and the families traditional meal that has been passed down for generations right from Italy. Better part of that is she burns them for a stronger flavor which people are pleasantly surprised when they try them.
My cooking triumphs
My favorite one is when I first took my new friends out to the Long Island Vineyards and told them not to worry about bringing any food. I made a salad, a muffleta, small pannini sandwiches and small appetizers. My friends were blown away. The wine was the right mix to the foods and I enjoyed all of the compliments.
My cooking tragedies
OK so I am a cook, I never said that I was a baker! I made oatmeal cookies from scratch. I thought everything was going well until I put them in the over. When they came out it looked like a big pan of candy spread out thin and crunchy. Did I put twice as much sugar and forget the flour? Ill never know.
