About this Cook
I am primarily vegetarian (although I occasionally eat fish and game)--my husband is not. He will politely eat most things I make but I can tell if he actually likes it by how much of it he will eat. Therefore, the hubby is my most trusted critic, because he will only really put down THE BEST food. I am working on stepping up my bland midwestern cooking roots to fit in better with the flavorful southwest. I have even learned to use hot sauce on a regular basis.
My favorite things to cook
desserts, breads, and anything healthy, organic, and/or delicious
My favorite family cooking traditions
the food here in the southwest is so much more interesting than back in Minnesota--especially if you're not into eating 12 servings of meat and dairy every day. My mom makes some pretty stellar desserts, though.
My cooking triumphs
attaining nickname "Debbie Crocker"
My cooking tragedies
...are in my compost pile (unless they contain fish, and then I run it by the cats first)

Scottish Shortbread II
I don't eat dairy, so I used Earth Balance Buttery Sticks instead of butter...probably a slightly different consistency in the end, but it was still delicious. I baked in a springform pan and added about 2 T lavender flowers, plus a sprinkle of powdered sugar on top.

Asian Pasta Salad with Beef, Broccoli and Bean Sprouts
i love the flavors in this recipe. i omitted the beef, used soba noodles instead of traditional pasta, and have made it with many different vegetables--all to great results!

Banana Sour Cream Bread
awesome. I was out of vanilla and didn't even notice it was missing.
