About this Cook
I've been cooking, or "helping", for as long as I can remember. I've read lots of books and taken classes in classic chinese cuisine and picked up some good tips while studying abroad in Paris. My mom is convinced I should have gone to culinary school instead of becoming an art restorer! I'm a pretty adventurous cook who doesn't like to make a recipe more than once, and I love testing out my own ideas.
My favorite things to cook
I love any kind of noodle: pasta, rice noodles, soba noodles, udon noodles, they're all yummy!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Pierogi for Christmas Eve!
My cooking triumphs
I recently became the inventor of the cranberry relish pierogi, tasted wonderful!
My cooking tragedies
Candy never, ever works out. No fail fudge, total failure.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
I hate to be the voice of dissent here, but from all the rave reviews I had thought that these cookies would be mind-blowingly good, instead they weren't too much different from any other gingerbread cookies that I've eaten. I must have made the balls of dough too small as well since I ended up with three and half dozen cookies. The measurements were very odd too, 2 1/4 cups and flour? And what am I going to do the half stick of butter that's left over? Don't get me wrong, the cookies are good, just not anything to write home about.

Sauerbraten Klopse (Sauerbraten Meatballs)
The meatballs tasted pretty good, but the "gravy" was just strange, it tasted like bay leaf flavored sugar. I would make the meatballs again, but I ended up making my own garlic white sauce, I would not make the gravy again.

Broccoli and Ramen Noodle Salad
This was pretty good as written. I added a handful of chopped cilantro and basil, and I made a lime sesame dressing, because I didn't want to use the salt (I mean flavor) packet that comes with the ramen noodles. I threw in a chopped up chili pepper too for some kick.
