Wave Your Flag Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
I used my mom's cheesecake recipe with the strawberry/blueberry decoration on top and it was a hit at my in-law's 4th of July party. Thanks for the creative idea.

Curried Rice Pilaf

Reviewed: Sep. 15, 2009
Fantastic! I made a few modifications. I omitted the raisins and used jasmine rice (that was all I had on hand) which lessened the cooking time. This is my hubby's favorite side dish. Thanks for sharing!

The name says it all! It tastes just like koolade but with a very happy kick. Thanks for sharing! This was a big hit at my neighborhood gathering.

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2009
I followed another reviewer's recommendation and slow cooked the chicken breasts for about 6 hours in chicken broth and onions. Then I drained and shredded the chicken and added a bottle of Jack Daniel's BBQ sauce and cooked on low for another hour or two. This turned out great! I also used the leftovers to make quesadillas the next night with cheddar, green onions and cilantro. Will make again.

Ranch Burgers

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2009
I followed the recommendation of others and doubled the amount of ranch dressing mix. It made it a bit salty for our taste but very flavorful. I will try this again per the recipe.

Maine Lobster Lasagna

Fantastic! I had to use previously frozen lobster, but it still melted in my mouth. I get requests for it whenever I say I'm having a dinner party.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
I didn't have any steak sauce, so I used Worcestershire instead. What an excellent sauce! I'm glad I'm made extra as suggested by other reviewers because it also made an excellent salad dressing.

Honey Roasted Red Potatoes

Very good. There wasn't a strong flavor to them but we enjoyed them a great deal. A nice sweet side for spicy chops.

Rib Eye Steaks with a Soy and Ginger Marinade

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2009
Very tender. The soy was a bit overpowering for the hubby's and my taste. Next time will use half the amount of soy and substitute the other half with worcestershire. Thanks for the recipe!

Avocado Feta Salsa

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
This was an excellent twist on salsa. I used 2 avocados instead of one and substituted 2 tsp of lime juice and 1 tsp lemon juice for the lemon juice. I also substituted cilantro instead of oregano and parsley. Thanks for sharing! I have already passed this recipe on to two others (giving credit to allrecipes.com, of course).

BBQ Pork for Sandwiches

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
I was told by everyone who tried this that it is my best BBQ sandwich yet. I did modify the recipe a bit. I used a 3.5 lb pork shoulder instead of ribs. I put the pork in the slow cooker with a can of beef broth, 1/2 yellow onion and 2 cloves of garlic. I followed the recipe from there and used my hubby's homemade BBQ sauce on the meat before I baked it in the iron skillet. After baking it, I put it back in the slow cooker with 1/4 cup red wine vinegar, 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup ketchup, 1/2 cup chili sauce, 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp lemon juice, 2 tsp lime juice, 1/2 tsp dijon mustard, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper sauce, 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper and 1/4 tsp Maggi seasoning. It tasted wonderful! I have already had requests for it again.

Detroit Hot Honey Wings

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
These were exceptional! The hubby had already marinated my wings, so I used this recipe on some drumsticks. They were tasty. We like things very spicy in our house, so I think I will add a little more heat next time. Thanks for the great recipe!

Chris' Bay Area Burger

Reviewed: May 4, 2009
This was a good burger with very different flavor. The garlic was overpowering, but I love garlic, so that was fine with me. I agree with another poster that ketchup and mustard are not the right condiments for this burger.

Ham and Cheese Puffs

These were pretty good, but did not "wow" me. However, some of my overnight guests enjoyed the leftovers as a late night snack. Next time I will try them with biscuit mix, an extra egg and more cheese.

Chili Rick's

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
I have now won 2 chili cookoffs with this recipe. I have modified it a bit to add a little more spice (they like it spicy around here), but it is the recipe on which I base all chili that I make. To add a little kick, I like to add a bit of cayenne sauce and some red pepper flakes.

Cheesy Onion Roll-Ups

These are requested specifically every year for our opening day football party. Every year I double the recipe and they're still gone before halftime of the first game! The only modification I have made was, at the hubby's request, adding bacon bits to the mixture. Thanks for sharing.

Double Tomato Bruschetta

Fantastic! I will never use another bruschetta recipe. I had people asking for more after it was gone at my last gathering. I guess 2 loaves just wasn't enough to satisfy the hungry masses. Thanks for the great recipe!

Marinade for Steak I

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
Very tender. I did take other posters' advice and used 1/2 the oil (I used olive oil) and substituted 1/2 of the soy sauce with a steak sauce the hubby made. I also doubled the amount of garlic because we love garlic in my household. The steak was very good and very tender, but the onions were phenominal. I will definitely keep this as a possible veggie marinade as well.
