I'm 1.5 years post-op from gastric bypass surgery. You'll notice in most of my reviews that I've made alterations to the dishes in order to make them lower in fat. Lower in fat means that my poor stomach will tolerate the food better. I love exotic and spicy foods. Since I eat so little, I want everything I eat to be packed full of flavor. I have found that spending a lot of time cooking a meal increases my enjoyment of the small amounts of food I can eat.
My favorite things to cook
I love Asian and Indian food. I find that their preparation methods make so much more sense than the European-American cooking I grew up with. Asian food allows all of the ingredients to really shine individually, while adding to the whole dish.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I may love Asian food but there is a soft spot in my heart for good old fashioned Pennsylvania Dutch cooking. I love chicken pot pie and all the fantastic baked goods that my area is famous for, like shoo-fly pie.
My cooking triumphs
Every year I make 10-15 batches of Christmas cookies. No one else in my family takes the time to do that anymore so everyone is always so appreciative and complimentary of my cookies. Even if they are terrible, they are better than cookies from a box. :)
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make Japanese miso soup from scratch. It was so bad that I threw it all out, as well as all the left over ingrediants from the recipe. I decided right then and there that I would NEVER try it again.
