After the "thousands" of excellent ratings, I must mine! I recommend cutting down on the sugar. Another variation: form into french bread loaves on large tray that has been sprinkled with cornmeal. Spritz the oven with water before putting in the loaves, and again once or twice during baking. Gives a good chewy crust with the tender center.
