About this Cook
I'm a stay-at-home wife and mother with one son. I've been cooking for myself since my teens. I love baking breads, cookies and cakes and feel pretty competent in that area. I also enjoy making jams and jellies. I'm still learning how to cook for a small family after many years of marriage - I can only get better with time!
My favorite things to cook
I like to try new things, but my husband doesn't. That said, I like to find new ways to do the usual stuff without my husband noticing! My favorite thing is to bake! Wish my hubby liked pies!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I'm still learning the traditions of my in-laws since I live closer to them than my own family. My mother-in-law prepares the majority of all traditional family meals so I don't play a large part in that. I enjoy making desserts for holiday gatherings...give me my space in the kitchen and let me work...and I'm happy!
My cooking triumphs
None I can think of...I guess any meal that everyone likes is a triumph in itself! I'd like to find a couple of recipes that are no-miss for company - that would be a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
Too many to mention....live and learn!

Grain and Nut Whole Wheat Pancakes
I made these today for my family and we all liked them! Even my picky eaters thought they were good - score! I made a few adjustments for health reasons, but the base recipe is still great. I used 1/2 c. flax meal in place of 1/2 c. whole wheat flour. I omitted the oil and sugar altogether and used 1/2 c. unsweetened applesauce instead. And I also used 2 egg whites in place of the egg. Finally, like others, I added 1 tsp. each cinnamon and vanilla. The result was a moderate batter (thicker toward the end of the bowl - keep stirring each time you ladel out batter!) that cooked up evenly and moist, not overly sweet. They were great topped with applesauce or syrup. Thanks for this great recipe!
