I am a single mother to a beautiful daughter Bethany...she definately keeps me on my toes! I love Alaska, I was born & raised here and couldn't imagine living anywhere else & the thing I like most about it is being so close to my family. I also met my wonderful boyfriend Greg here, he just moved up from Michigan and is a police officer with the city of Nome. I know he's a keeper because my daughter LOVES him, and he loves her just as much. I am really lucky.
I recently graduated from college, and I am a Director of a Child Advocacy Center, which deals with abused children and it is the most fulfilling job but it also carries a lot of stress. So, I love to bake & run outdoors to relax & have quiet time.
My favorite things to cook
Healthy dinners, stir-fry's, italian dishes, mexian dishes, and my favorite foods are chicken & pork, cookies, quick breads, and a new favorite is yeast breads. I have been branching out a lot lately and just sucessfully made doughnuts! yum! My boyfriend just got a moose & a musk ox (it is a crazy looking animal for sure!) which actually tastes just like beef, but healthier.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking and making things from scratch. My mom makes everything home-made and it is wonderful! She also eats very healthy, which I have also come to love. My grandmother on my fathers side taught her many recipes, and to this day I love to cook/bake for my dad because our Grandma Krier would make special treats just for him. His favorite is a pinapple upside down cake, followed by jewish moons, and egg noodles.
My cooking triumphs
Making delicious homemade bread, pizza crust & doughnuts! It took me a little bit to understand the science of yeast, and I am so glad all of my efforts have paid off!
My cooking tragedies
I started to bake when I was very young, so when I was making my first batch of peanut butter cookies, I put 1/4 cup of salt in the dough instead of 1/4 teaspoon. My dad wasn't too happy about that!
