About this Cook
I was a member of allrecipes for a while but somehow I lost my profile; had to rejoin - just now getting around to redoing it :) I have been married since 1971, 3 grown children and my Mom always made everything from scratch so I do also, 99.9% of the time lol
My favorite things to cook
homemade pizza, lemon meringue pie, chicken cacciatore, roasts, and my current pleasure is homemade soups. so many favorites to add, so I just mentioned a few.
My favorite family cooking traditions
used to bake goodies all the time when the kids were little. breads, sweet rolls, candies, cookies, cakes, and pies. I do less of that now, since when we get older, we widen. lol would love to find a great recipe for Italian bread, very similar to how it's made near where I grew up near Philadelphia PA. I realize my electric oven will have to be the substitute for the proper ovens used to bake the crusty outside and soft, tender inside. alas
My cooking triumphs
homemade pizza, soups, sweet potato pie, shrimp egg rolls, etc etc etc
My cooking tragedies
oh my. we all have some recipe disasters we'll never forget! lol one of mine was a sweet potato, meatball ragout recipe I found in a magazine. It was so bad, my family and I couldn't eat it. The worst was when I put it out for the cats, they wouldn't touch it either! Other times come to mind - I chopped up fresh green beans from my garden for dinner, I salted them and hubby didn't know, but he salted them again - heart-attack unedible green beans! I made a lemon meringue pie once and lo.. forgot to add the lemon juice - ugh!

Streusel Coffee Cake
I have no idea what went wrong. used the 10 inch bundt pan as instructed and others that said the cake overflowed, same happened to me :( the top browned to a crunch, took it out of the oven before it became too browned, cooled it a bit, and the insides were mostly raw. what part wasn't all goo, tasted great. what a shame

Spinach Lentil Soup
the only change I made -substituted half of the salsa, for stewed tomatoes, both of which I can at home. this is a great soup, extremely low in sodium and yet so flavorful and almost provides a full days worth of fiber intake with just one serving. Thanks for submitting it Sally!

Mediterranean Puff Pastry Chicken
this is delicious! here are my changes to suit me - bitesized precooked marinated chicken. I used one half the sheet of puff pastry per serving. used far less garlic & pesto, also used plain canned chopped tomatoes, very well-drained. as for the cheese, I recently made Stuffed Mushrooms III recipe from this site, submitted by LisaB and the leftover cheese mixture from it, I used with this recipe. BOY, it turned out great! this recipe is a keeper! Thanks, Rose :)
