About this Cook
Hello, my name is Karolan and I have a cooking addiction. ;) I have more recipe books that I can shake a fist at and I'm constantly keeping my ears and eyes open for unique recipes. I am well-known in my circle of friends and family for my desserts and everyone loves my presents of cheesecakes and cookies. My sister and I were a catering team for a year while we lived close to each other, cooking meals for doctors' offices, but I live too far away and cannot find anyone that I trust where I live to help me start again. But I do get chances at creating wedding, baby shower, and birthday cakes.
My favorite things to cook
Cheesecakes!! I have quite a few passed-down family recipes, including Chicken with (homemade) Dumplins, that are rotated. My main cooking style is southern with plenty of chicken and vegetables.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom and I battle it out Thanksgiving and Christmas to see who can make the better food. I usually let Mom win Thanksgiving. ;)
My cooking triumphs
After many many tries, I finally perfected the cheesecake cooking process!!
My cooking tragedies
My first cake that incorporated fondant decorations (it was a birthday cake dressed up like a present with a big bow on top) was a bit frumpy because the humidity at the time didn't allow the bow parts to harden as they should have. I felt pretty bad about it, but I didn't have the time to make another. However, the birthday girl raved about the cake, so at least this story doesn't have a bad ending.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
WOW! I made the recipe as written (I'll have the try the orange juice trick later). Be warned that you'll have messy hands when you roll the balls, but the batter is so good I didn't care! These are super easy to make, even a novice can't wrong.

Pork, Broccoli and Rice Casserole
Fantastic! This was a hit at our house, even with the kids! No cream of celery hanging around the house, so I had to substitute with cream of mushroom. MM MM MMMM!!!
