I am terrible at using leftovers. I don't know what it is, but zapping something older never seems as appealing as putting together something new, even if it's a dish I quite liked the first time around. I guess it's largely due to the fact that microwaving rarely leaves a dish with its… MORE

About this Cook
I'm a 25-year-old editor in Marin County, CA with a boyfriend who can't smell and an old-fashioned Italian urge to use garlic in every dish.
My favorite things to cook
I love baking-- turning dough or batter into cakes, cookies, and breads is just awesome. I'm a bit of an asianaphile, so I make a lot of food from or inspired by Japan, China, Thailand, etc.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother makes a hamburger stroganoff recipe that is to DIE for and I've never quite duplicated! I'm also very used to meals with side-dishes; one-dish deals usually aren't my thing.
My cooking triumphs
I invented my first successful recipe in January of 2010-- a Chicken Tortilla Soup recipe.
My cooking tragedies
I've never had a huge cooking disaster-- I'm usually overcautious --but one time when I was little I tried to make tea in the microwave and set the handle of my dad's favorite tea kettle on fire.

Quick Chicken Marsala
Easy, not too fatty, and keeps great as a leftover!

Blackened Tilapia with Secret Hobo Spices
My first time cooking tilapia and it came out great! The spices were a good mix-- I used about a quarter of a teaspoon of cayenne pepper --and the fish came out perfectly. Definitely making this one again!

Easy Seafood Fettucini
I used less butter, fat-free milk, Healthy Request cream of mushroom soup, and no scallops, but the dish turned out pretty tasty. I also threw in mushrooms. That said I think I'll use a bit less milk next time, since the sauce was a little bit thin. We also don't seem to have used much of it as leftovers, unfortunately-- I think a little something to add a bit more savoriness to the sauce (perhaps some garlic salt) might help. Still and all though, quite good and easy.
