About this Cook
I'm a part-time student and full-time mom living common-law. Other than myself, I cook for an adventurous 7 year old boy and his not-so-adventurous dad. I love trying out new ingredients, new cooking methods, new combinations . . . you name it! Other things about me: -I love Eastern European literature, specifically surrounding topics that relate to living in a totalitarian society. -I speak German, Russian and Cantonese -I enjoy writing poetry and non-fiction -I wonder who will read this???
My favorite things to cook
chicken chow mein, fried rice, roast beef dinner, breakfast, and dishes that require mixing together lots of ingredients!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I can't say we have a cooking tradition because I have to admit that my mother didn't pass off any good-cooking skills. But I suppose a fluke tradition is that I accidentally burn myself on something hot a few times a month. :S
My cooking triumphs
Discovering that I can "wing" recipes and create my own delicious dishes! Unique throw-together creations: -feta pasta with chicken and veggies -fajita chicken stew -beef and potato stew
My cooking tragedies
Too many to name! The bright red roast, the pink turkey, the crunchy pasta/rice, the burnt sauce, the soggy veggies, etc. etc. etc.

Skillet Herbed Chicken with Mustard
Would have been much better without so much tarragon. I'm sure that if I cut the tarragon in half or even more, that it would have been excellent.

Hearty Lentil Soup
Kind of bland. Needs salt. I added a little cumin and a little curry powder and it tasted great after that. Also, I added kernel corn and cut green beans. Very filling.

Moroccan Tagine
I used a can of mixed beans instead of garbanzo beans. I also added some cauliflower. Extra spices I used were: cumin, curry powder, tumeric, cinnamon. These, along with the other spices, I added with the onions in the very beginning, which gave the chicken more flavour. I also added a handful of chopped cilantro before serving.
