Old World Escarole and Beans

Reviewed: Oct. 28, 2009
Delicious - a light soup with a nice garlic flavor. Skipped the red pepper because we don't like it and we didn't miss it at all. Did not find the escarole bitter either. Enjoyed it very much.

I made no changes to the recipe. I have made them twice for our church coffee hour and everyone loves them.

Absolutely delicious. I used my home canned raspberry jam. The people at the meeting loved it, seeds and all.

Calico Bean Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2009
This soup was delicious. I only had three kinds of beans and used a ham bone. Since I was making it immediately I used a real onion and skipped the cumin. It was very good and I am anxious to make it again.

Lesley's Valentine Brownies with Raspberry Coulis

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2009
I believe this recipe needs sugar in the couli. I added 1/4-1/2 cup of sugar to taste, not sweet but relieves the too strong tartness of the plain raspberries. I did not make the brownies only the couli and it was good with the added sugar.

Lemon Pie II

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2009
This pie does not have any lemon flavor at all. Either the cream cheese or the sweetened condensed milk cover the lemon flavor. I kept adding lemon juice to get some flavor but it just made it sour. Had to throw it out.

Loved it! One reviewer is right, it is even better after it sits overnight in the fridge.

Slow Cooker Barbecue Beans

Delicious! Used as an apetizer with corn chips. Loved by young and old alike. Has a sweet taste from the canned baked beans. May try a less sweet variety next time.

Shrimp Asopao

Absolutely delicious! don't let the number of ingredients scare you, it is very easy to make. Mine did not come out as a soup but more as a rice dish but everyone loved it. Next time would subsitute some tomatoes and/or chicken broth for some of the water.

Grilled Salmon Sandwiches

My husband and I both love salmon but did not like these sandwiches. We did not care for the sweet relish and felt the bread was slightly soggey.

Excellent!!! For deep dish, Chicago style just eliminate the oil and add 1/4c butter. Both doughs turned out great!

The Best!! Microwaves do vary so much that I only made 1/4 batch the first time. We could not stop eating them. These will make a great addition to our homemade Christmas gifts.

Excellent pancakes. A new way to get oatmeal into our bodies. I didn't bother with a blender, just put the ingredients in a bowl and mixed with a spoon. Easy cleanup.

Real Homemade Tamales

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2008
I made 1/2 with pork and 1/2 with chicken. Both were absolutely delicious. The chile sauce was just awful. Not sure if the dried chiles were poor quality or the recipe but it had no flavor, all we could taste was salt. Highly recommend cooking the meats a day ahead of time and if possible working with at least one other person. Less tiresome to make the tamales. It is not hard just time consuming.

San Francisco Sourdough Bread

I make homemade bread once a week and tried sourdough for the first time. The bread is delicious. It is the first time I used the starter so it isn't really "sour". But still excellent taste and texture. Delish!
