About this Cook
I'm a single mom of a 18 yr old son. I have spent most of his 18 yrs trying to be creative. When he was a toddler he was THE pickiest eater. I'm very good at hiding the "yucky" things in the middle of the "good" things. Now, being a teenager, I am getting really really good at cooking in bulk. He can't get enough. I love it tho. I have always loved to cook and it's a challenge to get creative - but I love it. I usually cook all weekend long and freeze it for the busy week ahead.
My favorite things to cook
Homemade breads and cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Homemade baked goodies (cookies breads) the first weekend of fall. Also, been trying to re-create my grandmas' recipe for kugulis. It's an old Lithuanian potato dish made in a cast iron skillet. It was our favorite and grandma would always make it when we came in town to visit. Unfortuantely, the recipe was in her head and she has passed on long ago.
My cooking triumphs
I get euphoric ANYtime I can make a recipe from the food network and actually have it turn out.
My cooking tragedies
I was in my 20's, old enough to know better decided to have the family over for Thanksgiving Dinner. See where this is going? My mom would alwyas stuff the bird but not having the patience I decided to cook the stuffing separately. That is why, when we sat down to eat and my dad carved the bird, we discovered the neck and little bag of giblets still neatly tucked inside the bird. I learned real quick - you wash the bird on the outside AND most importantly on the INSIDE.

Honey Whole Wheat Bread
I made this over the weekend and it tasted good - but I needed to add another cup of water. The 1 1/8 made a "mealy" looking dough so I added the water and restarted the cycle. Turned out good.

French Bread Rolls to Die For
Made these last night - Awesome!!! Only added a bit more salt based on previous comments and put them in my muffin tins. Great rolls especially when the bread machine does most of the work. Weekly baking on my menu now!

Creamed Chipped Beef
I'm getting ready to make it now. I used to love it growing up but we never served it on a "shingle" altho my dad (ex-Navy_ made sure to tell us the SOS story - LOL. My mom served it on mashed potatoes and OMG it is to die for. I don't ever remember her sauteeing the beef before hand but I will follow the recipe.
