Crispy Fried Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 29, 2009
One tip: if you think the recipe is bland its because you didn't season to taste - so disregard any review that says this is bland. Very helpful techniques for crispy, delicious fried chicken my best ever!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Gluehwein

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2007
I have never heard of gluehwein but was looking for a festive spiced wine something for Christmas. My mother-in-law loved it, sister-in-law hated it and I thought it was pretty good though not what I was looking for. I followed the advice of others and used orange juice which made it too bitter for me - for me the water would have been the better choice. I enjoyed the spicy taste and thought it was more like a dessert wine.

Honey Baked Chicken II

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2007
Based on other reviews, I seasoned the chicken first with salt, garlic powder, and a little paprika. My family enjoyed the chicken and I will make this again however, we thought they were a little overly sweet and I will cut back on the honey next time.

JELL-O® Pastel Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
Thank you for sharing this recipe. My grandma made these when we were kids, they were my favorites. When I copied the recipe from her I missed the sugar part and hadn't quite figured it out. These are just like Grandma's!! One idea from Grams - you can make one red jello and one green then twine 2 strands together to form a candy cane - too cute.

Soft Sugar Cookies IV

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2007
Oh yeah - these are wonderful! We made these tonight to roll out and decorate, they came out great. I was concerned that as roll outs the 10 minute cooking time would be too long however found out it was perfect. The key to soft sugar cookies is definitely to not over bake them. Great advice to fluff the flour while measuring, because my son was helping the 3 1/2 cups was slightly too much, I used another user's advice to press the dough together with wet hands and no problems. Let the dough sit in the fridge for 2 hours and the dough worked well. We loved them.

Delicious Baked Chicken

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2007
I am giving this recipe five stars because my family LOVED this chicken. To get my kids to love something is truly a wonderous event!!!!! The key to this recipe is the SEASON TO TASTE line. If you don't add seasoning to it you will possibly find it bland. I put garlic in the olive oil, then seasoned with garlic powder, salt, pepper and a little dried thyme. I only had 1/2 cup of Worcestershire and it could have used the full amount to my taste. The chicken was moist but cooked faster than the recipe called for. I thought it was pretty good but the kids really provided the rating for this one.

Janet's Rich Banana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
Excellent recipe. I used vanilla lowfat yogurt and accidentally halved the butter (intended to use part applesauce) - still came out yummy. As always, used part whole wheat flour. Easy recipe to make modifications to and still comes out great.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2007
Definitely better than Cinnabon!! Even my picky kids agreed. Just up from the table where each of us ate 2 of these in one sitting - ouch. I even healthed these up a bit with 3/4 whole wheat flour, reduced butter in the dough and added flaxseed meal. I did not have cream cheese so used the sugar, vanilla, butter, maple extract from another site for the frosting. These were the best - one other tip use 1 TB flour in with the sugar/cinnamon mixture to keep the sugar mix from disappearing.

Triple Berry Crisp

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2007
Wonderful! Even my picky cobbler hating children loved this one!!!!! Pretty much followed the recipe but healthed it up a bit with some whole wheat flour, reduced butter (would have been even better with all the butter) and groundflax seed. These won't change the flavor dramatically and it was great. Thanks.

Pizza Dough II

I make pizza dough all the time. I have tried recipe after recipe and this one is the best I have ever tried. I am always looking for whole wheat recipes and I like that this one includes at least some. This got rave reviews at my party and my kids gobbled it up.

Fabulous Homemade Bread

Reviewed: Mar. 18, 2007
Excellent bread. I was confused by the lack of kneading in the instructions. My dough came out very sticky and I kneaded in a bit more flour to one loaf to make it a little less sticky and even more flour to another for a more traditional bread like feel. I will probably knead next to the more bread like feel. I think the very sticky dough may be why others have problems with "falling" and bread that falls apart. However both versions tasted great!!

Seattle Dutch Babies

Reviewed: Mar. 3, 2007
These are wonderful, my whole family loves them. Thanks for a good recipe. Be warned however, when working with this dutch babies (or popovers or yorkshire pudding) from time to time you may have to work with them to get them to puff up. I always start with a hot oven 425 degrees and drop to 375 when they start to rise - always works. Usually melt a little butter in the pan as well to start with a hot pan.

Boudreaux's Zydeco Stomp Gumbo

Fabulous!! A Super Bowl party hit - thanks for the great recipe. I added okra and crab meat, otherwise followed the recipe. I have not made gumbo so I was not sure if I was supposed to skim the fat off the top or not? I did and it was still great. Thanks.

Whole Wheat English Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 19, 2007
Who knew you could make English Muffins so easy!? These came out great, tasted better than store bought for sure - I will never buy again. They did not rise much on the 2nd rising so make sure you use a 4" cutter - I used a round tupperware container to get them the right size.

My Mom's Swiss Steak

Reviewed: Jan. 17, 2007
This recipe is great! I seasoned, floured and browned the meat first. I did not have green pepper or mushrooms but I did have a red pepper. I used diced tomatoes with garlic, basil and oregano (frum Hunts). Came out very tasty, can't wait to try it with the mushrooms - great basic recipe room for personal preferences.

It's Chili by George!!

Reviewed: Sep. 24, 2006
Great recipe! Reading the other reviews, obvisously you can change it up to suit your personal taste and it still comes out great. I only had dry kidney beans so softened those in salted water and used them. I also seasoned the beef while browing as I used low sodium V8 Juice. Otherwise I followed the recipe exactly. I worried about the consistency after reading the other reviews but using juice did not cause an issue. I did cook with the lid ajar and used the full 90 minutes cook time to get the chili consistency. My guests had 2 & 3 helpings!! Thanks for this one.

Chicken Parmigiana

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2005
My 10 year old actually complimented this chicken - a miracle!! I sliced the chicken in to thin halves and browned them in olive oil before placing in baking dish with sauce and covering with the cheese (baked them until cheese was melted and sauce bubbly). I also lightly salted the chicken and added garlic powder to the bread crumbs. Wonderful! Thanks for this one.
