About this Cook
I am happily married with 4 kids (2 boys-8 and 1 and 2 girls-5 and 3). I am an Army brat and now an Army wife. My dad retired from the Army when I was 16 and my parents became missionaries then. I met my husband on the missions field. We are currently stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. This is the 8th place I've lived in my short 26 years on earth!
My favorite things to cook
I like to make ethnic foods (everythings from stir-fry to pasta to rouladen to enchiladas). I also LOVE to bake---in fact I have a batch of cookies in the oven right now!!! I love making bread, too.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I learned to bake and cook from both of my parents. My mom is a recipe follower and my dad is a "toss-it-in-the-pot" cook. My mom always had cookies going to take to the sick or to someone who she thought needed cheering. Holidays were always planned out weeks in advance. Our house was always filled with folks who had no family close by. We became their temporary family----and kept them happy with cookies, BBQ's and everything in between. I'm glad I'm able to pass down the same thing to my kids---we are constantly having people over or making a dish for someone.
My cooking triumphs
After trying to make the perfect chocolate chip cookies for 10 years, I finally got it JUST RIGHT! I am asked to bring them to every event I attend. They are big and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside---just like the kind you get at the bakery. YUM!!
My cooking tragedies
I tried to BBQ ribs like my dad once (his are better then any restaurant!). It was simple---just classic North Carolina BBQ. But, somehow I over salted the meat and everyone just gagged. Since then, my husband and I have gotten better---I do the meat and he grills it--but that time, dinner quickly turned into McDonald's!
