Creamy Hot Cocoa

So incredibly good! I added some whipped cream to the top but that made it too rich (if there is such a thing!).

Grandma's Gingersnap Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 2, 2009
I think I baked mine too long (longer that the recipe says since I seem to always have to bake stuff longer in my oven) even thought I watched them closely. They just didn't look done but then they turned too crispy even though they were baked on an airbake sheet. I prefer the Big Soft Ginger Cookie recipe on this site.

Ricardo's Pizza Crust

Good but I'm still looking for great. The pizza tastes better reheated on the stove in a covered frying pan, the bottom of the crust gets crispy and it doesn't get soggy.

Best Ever Popcorn Balls

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2008
These are good but I felt it needed about 7 quarts of popcorn, there was a ton of the coating. I got 9 2.5 to 3 oz. balls (about 3 inches). I added vanilla (right at the very end) and even some salt. **UPDATE** The second time I did use 7 qts. of popcorn and liked that better. I added 1/4 t salt and 3/4 t vanilla (vanilla at the end). I forgot the water the second time, not sure what it did but it's fine without. I got 14 baseball size balls. With the changes I've made this is a 6 star recipe. I like these so much I can't seem to bring myself to give them away, I want to eat them all.

Jackie's Sausage Soup

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
Delicious soup!!! I followed the recipe exactly except I had to use half boullion and the other half canned broth. Oh, and added pepper. I thought the green pepper was going to be kind of weird but it fit in perfectly with the tomato and sausage. Served with crusty French bread. One of my new favorites!

Apple Pumpkin Muffins

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2008
Good muffins. I got 24 though, not 18. The topping didn't work for me, next time I'll try a different mix, maybe brown sugar instead of white, my butter was straight from the fridge too but it didn't crumble. Oh well, they still tasted good.

I use brown sugar, omit the salt and cloves. When I double the recipe I use 1/2 whole milk and 1/2 evaporated. A must have every Thanksgiving.

Whole Wheat Pumpkin-Applesauce Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 25, 2008
I've been wanting to make pumpkin muffins for over a week now and I finally decided on these because they are healthier than all the ones I've been eyeing, my conscience was reminding me Thanksgiving is two days away. These were great and I will definitely make these again! Instead of the raisins I added Craisins.

Egg Sandwich

One egg on a sandwich isn't enough for me, I had to double. I didn't microwave it either. The egg and toast were hot enough to melt the cheese just fine.

This has got to be one of my all-time favorite appetizers. I serve mine in a bread bowl (rye if I can get it/make it) otherwise French bread works well too.

Acorn Squash

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2008
I hadn't tried squash in about 20 years so I thought it was about time I give it another try. It was good! I baked mine differently: placed, cut-side up, in a small baking dish with 1/2 inch of water in the bottom and covered it with foil. It was perfectly baked after 60 minutes. I had to salt the heck of it too.

Cranberry season doesn't last long so go get your cranberries now and freeze some for later. A very pretty cake and it's not too sweet. I think next time for a little extra I'll add some orange zest.

Chocolate Cookie Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
I made this to frost "Butter Cake" from this site. I had to add more milk/cream to make it more of a frosting consitancy. This cake was one layer of a 9x9 so if you have a bigger cake to frost double the recipe.

Yummy! Just how I remembered from Home Ec. class 19 years ago. (I just sat here for a good 2 minutes rechecking my math and even opened "calculator", I didn't think it had been that long but it has and even longer than my first guess. Ugh.)

Veggie Pizza

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
This was good and a hit at the party but in my opinion it was too salty or had too much ranch. I was going to only add half the ranch packet and wish I would've but since 95% of the reviews didn't seem to have a problem with it I went ahead and added the whole thing. My choice of veggies were tomatoes, green peppers, celery, green onion, carrot and cucumber. I was a little unsure of the dimensions that defines a jelly roll pan so I used my 11x17 and I made this the night before the party and didn't have a problem with it getting soggy. Next time I make this I'll use reduced fat options (crescent rolls, cream cheese and sour cream) as I don't think any flavor would be compromised and only a half packet of dressing.

Caramel Apple Dip

Reviewed: Nov. 18, 2008
This was definitely the hit of my party. I sliced all but 3 small apples of a 3 lb. bag and every apple was gone the the bowl licked clean. I was worried it was going to be too sweet but went ahead and added all the sugar anyway. It was perfect! I wanted to have all the food prep work done hours before the party so to keep the sliced apples from browning I put them in a bowl of about 4 cups of water and 1/4 cup lemon juice and kept them in the fridge. Right before I was ready to serve them I drained them and served them on a large platter with the dip in the middle. The last apple was as white as when I first served it.
