About this Cook
I love to cook in the fall and winter! When Labor Day rolls around I'm thinking ahead to cocooning and making soups, chilis, etc.
My favorite things to cook
Soups and baking
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom's chicken noodle soup recipe, tweaked a little, is the one I use. We have lots of traditions around cooking in our family -- muffins on the first day of school, bat pie in October (chicken pot pie with cookie cut outs of bats on top). I make applesauce that my kids love so much that they turn up their noses at the jarred stuff.
My cooking triumphs
My soups are really good! My kids take their lunches to school and I really pride myself on making creative, healthy lunches.
My cooking tragedies
I made the worst apple pie ever a couple of weeks ago. The apples were the consistency of sauce and it was just about inedible.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets
I was really disappointed in this -- after all the great reviews, I was expecting to love it! The sauce added absolutely nothing to a great piece of salmon -- in fact, it detracted. We scraped off as much of it as we could.

Grilled Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich
I made this for my kids, ages 7 & 8, for breakfast this AM. They loved it! We followed the recipe as written, other than buttering the bread instead of using a spray. This will be a nice breakfast when it is cold!

Black Bean And Corn Salad II
This is very good as written but I like it even better with my personal changes -- I put in more lime juice (1/2 c) than oil (1/3) cup. I actually double the amounts above, add chilled cooked rice, refrigerate and voila! A light main course salad with complete protein.
