About this Cook
I'm an Australian living in Asia with my 2 active boys and wonderful husband , all of whom love to eat! When we first moved to Singapore I really had to ramp up my cooking skills as a lot a food that we liked was not available here 10 years ago - improvisation was the name of the game!
My favorite things to cook
I'll try most things that involve using all natural/from scratch ingredients. Not into deep frying, dairy, high fat foods but unfortunately have a thing for Tex-Mex which pretty much always involves cheese and sour cream...so thanks to this website I've been able to find some great Mexican recipes without all the fat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking with my kids - they love to help out in the kitchen and don't mind what it is we're making, as long as they get to try it when we're finished - and of course they love licking the bowl when we're baking! We usually bake together at least once every weekend. My youngest son, who is 5, loves to help me crush garlic - it's his special job.
My cooking triumphs
Always seems to be that the best dishes are the ones that are created out of desperation - using what's left in the back of the cupboard and bottom of the fridge - and of course I can never replicate them.
My cooking tragedies
Well, there have been many...the chicken with pear dish that didn't cook properly (of course I had 8 guests) and then there was the time I tried to grill a frozen Cornish pastie - that was nasty, burned on the outside, still frozen on the inside - but that was 15 years ago and I'm a bit better at cooking now!

Southwestern Pasta Salad
I think this would do better with more cumin and but it was still a great hit at a barbecue.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars IV
Based on other reviews I cut the butter down to 3/4 cup and it was plenty. Next time I would increase the amount of chocolate and use a bigger tin - I found the base was too thick. Great taste though.

Lentil Chili II
Followed the recipe except subbed half the water for red wine, and left out the butter. Also added the carrots and celery when I added the water. Really good!
