About this Cook
Hi! My name is Zakiah but friends call me Zack for short. I am currently living and studying in Japan and I've been here for almost 6 years now. I am planning to stay here a few more years before I go back to my country, Malaysia. Like many here who love to cook, my kitchen is my sanctuary. My kitchen is my territory. I feel my most peaceful in my kitchen (although it might not always be in the cleanest condition :p) I cook when I'm stressed. and I'm also begining to appreciate good photos to come with good recipes. So I take photos of most of the stuff that I cook. I'm still trying to photograph my cookings like the pros. Right now I own a Nikon D40 and a 50mm lense for me to capture most of my cooking. I normally use natural lighting as flashes tend to overexpose the pictures and making even the most delicious food look eeky. I would love to share more of my baking experiences and learn from others as well.
My favorite things to cook
I mostly love to bake; cakes, cookies, scones, biscuits, bread; you name it!But now I'm more into baking cupcakes and I've been doing my own 'research' as to what makes a cupcake unforgetable.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I believe cooking runs in my family; with almost all of my dad's siblings being great cooks and caterers and my mother's side where my aunts make the greatest cakes and breads. So it's really now wonder my sisters and I have this undying love and passion for cooking and food.
My cooking triumphs
My New York Baked Cheesecake. I've never been prouder!
My cooking tragedies
Too many too mention. Well, a lot of it involving disasterous cakes and rock hard cookies though. Sometimes the occasional burnt chicken and stiff roast beef.

Lemon Cupcakes
This recipe is definitely delicious and easy to make. I used a pancake mix (here in Japan they work pretty much like self-rising flour but with added sugar so I didn't have to use baking powder), Lessen the sugar to just 1 1/4 cups. I got a hint to make this cake moister by scalding the milk and pouring it last (This idea came from the Extreme Chocolate Cake recipe that called for boil water in the recipe) This really made the cupcakes moister and softer. Try it! And thanks for sharing the recipe ;)

Extreme Chocolate Cake
This recipe does yield a VERY VERY MOIST cake! And the cake is perfect for making layer cakes; which I made for a graduation party last week. I did lessen the sugar to 1 1/2 cups.Use a very good quality cocoa powder for best results because the cocoa powder you use really does determine how chocolaty this cake will become. My favorite recipe for a super moist cake and I will definitely make more of this in the future! Thanks for sharing the recipe!

Simple Taco Soup
This is my first time making taco soup. I like how this recipe is so quick, easy and delicious to make. The ingredients are simple and easy to get. I did omit the pinto beans and used black beans instead. Didn't have ranch dressing mix so i just added dry parsley and garlic powder. Also fried the beef with onion and garlic and added a bit of chili beans mix. Will make this again. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
