About this Cook
Hi! My name is Zakiah but friends call me Zack for short. I am currently living and studying in Japan and I've been here for almost 6 years now. I am planning to stay here a few more years before I go back to my country, Malaysia. Like many here who love to cook, my kitchen is my sanctuary. My kitchen is my territory. I feel my most peaceful in my kitchen (although it might not always be in the cleanest condition :p) I cook when I'm stressed. and I'm also begining to appreciate good photos to come with good recipes. So I take photos of most of the stuff that I cook. I'm still trying to photograph my cookings like the pros. Right now I own a Nikon D40 and a 50mm lense for me to capture most of my cooking. I normally use natural lighting as flashes tend to overexpose the pictures and making even the most delicious food look eeky. I would love to share more of my baking experiences and learn from others as well.
My favorite things to cook
I mostly love to bake; cakes, cookies, scones, biscuits, bread; you name it!But now I'm more into baking cupcakes and I've been doing my own 'research' as to what makes a cupcake unforgetable.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I believe cooking runs in my family; with almost all of my dad's siblings being great cooks and caterers and my mother's side where my aunts make the greatest cakes and breads. So it's really now wonder my sisters and I have this undying love and passion for cooking and food.
My cooking triumphs
My New York Baked Cheesecake. I've never been prouder!
My cooking tragedies
Too many too mention. Well, a lot of it involving disasterous cakes and rock hard cookies though. Sometimes the occasional burnt chicken and stiff roast beef.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies
I used 1 stick of baking margarine, 3/4 cup of sugar and I omitted the water. They were really good! I also mixed the white sugar with some flour before I rolled the dough in it. Will make these again :)

Whoopie Pies VIII
I've never made whoopie pies before so i have nothing to compare it to. But judging from other people's reviews and Mr.Wiki I pretty much managed to figure what these would turn out like. They were good, I did lessen the sugar to 3/4 cup (I half the original amount)because some said it was really sweet. I also added cinnamon and all spice for extra umph (I was a bit sick of the plain chocolate taste). The consistency was thick enough to be piped, so that you'll get a more even shape ( I figured that out half way baking 'em - duhh!) Didn't make the filling, used peanut butter buttercream instead and they became super-super good! Will make them again! :)

Vegan Chocolate Cake
Great Recipe! I've made tonnes of these vegan kinds and they never turn out good. This is by far the best vegan chocolate cupcake I've ever had. I did up the cocoa powder to give the cake a more chocolaty taste to it. And I sub the water with milk (cause I'm not a vegan :)) A great qucik fix for anyone craving for chocolate. Will make these again! Thanks for the recipe.
