About this Cook
I'm still quite young, but I miss the ideals of the past. I can't bring myself to serve anything out of a box. With work there isn't a whole lot of time for cooking anymore, but I still make sure to set aside time for a good dinner and the occasional dessert. It just feels good to me.
My favorite things to cook
My husband's favorites are my enchiladas. My favorites are my baked macaroni & cheese, Easy Slow Cooker French Dip from this site, and trying new pizza recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Of course, baking cookies with my Mama on Christmas. Other than that, she doesn't like cooking so I'm kind of teaching myself everything in the kitchen. I'm looking forward to some future traditions with babes of my own.
My cooking triumphs
Every time I find another winning recipe (most of them come from this site), I have a cooking triumph! That darn rice pudding is still eluding me though. It's the one recipe I can't get. I've tryed 4 times now. Let's see if I can get it on the 5th try!
My cooking tragedies
I had wanted to impress an old boyfriend once years ago. We lived in the barracks, so cooking wasn't the easiest thing. Well, I decided that I was going to make him this great home-cooked meal (pot roast with vegetables). I went out, bought my first slow-cooker, got all of the ingredients, put them in and went to work. All day I'd thought about how great dinner would be, how much he would appreciate having a good, warm meal. Then I got back to my room to discover that I'd bought a crock of a crock pot. It didn't work. The meat was bloody, stinky, and disgusting. The vegetables were slimy and stuck to the insides of the pot. Needless to say, he wasn't impressed.

Fried Cucumbers
Surprisingly good! I don't have cornmeal on hand, so I use some Bisquick baking mix instead and it comes out terrific. Eat it while it's hot!

Mulberry Muffins
I added an extra 1/4 cup to 1/2 cup of mulberries, but that was the only change. DELICIOUS!!!

Creme de Menthe Grasshopper Pie
I also used a prepared cookie crust, used almost a full 16 oz. container of Fluff, and 1/2 cup of creme de menthe. The filling tastes delicious and I would suggest buying some mini chocolate crusts for any extra filling you might end up with -- why waste?
