I'm a stay-at-home mommy living in NE Ohio. I've been cooking for a couple of years, since I've been married, and I love it! I do almost all of the cooking in our home. My mom was a great cook and even when she was taking night classes to complete her master's degree she put together a well balanced dinner every night (meat, vegetable, starch, bread). It's important to me to carry on this tradition with my husband, which means that some nights we eat dinner VERY late :) Now I have a new baby (born in October, 2007) so that presents new challenges! She always decides she's hungry right when we sit down to eat! :)
My favorite things to cook
I love baking and making breads and muffins. I have gotten away from using my bread machine and have found that working with bread dough can be a great stress reliever (though if I'm feeling lazy I use my KitchenAid Mixer :))
We also eat a lot of chicken - in the summer we have grilled chicken with oven french fries probably 4-5 nights/week!
My favorite family cooking traditions
It's not so much cooking as the lack there-of. My family always has "snack dinner" on Christmas Eve. We get home from church and pull out the crackers, summer sausage, cheese, fruit, dips that my mom makes ("blow-fish", a cheeseball, and cinnamon apple dip), and of course Christmas cookies. It's a tradition that we eat snack dinner and watch a Christmas movie - probably my favorite dinner of the year :)
My cooking triumphs
I have perfected a lowfat, low(er) sugar, and egg free chocolate chip cookie recipe - it's not tough, puffy, or flavorless! - a triumph that my waistline can appreciate :) Watch for it on this website!
My cooking tragedies
I have never mastered cooking on a charcoal grill. My food always ends up either practically raw or tasting like lighter fluid. I also can't cook regular rice. I follow the recipe exactly and it ends up either burned to the bottom of the pan or crunchy. Many a dinner has been thrown away due to crunchy, burned rice :P
