Penne with Spicy Chicken Sausage, Beans, and Greens

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2009
This was great! We got arugula and cherry tomatoes in our CSA box this week - this recipe was perfect! I substituted spicy Italian turkey sausage and great northern beans b/c that's what I had, and we loved it! Thanks so much.

Thai Chicken with Basil Stir Fry

Reviewed: Aug. 23, 2009
We thought this was great, although I did make a few minor changes to the sauce - light coconut milk, 1T fish sauce, 1t crushed red pepper. I also added some bell peppers with the onions, and cilantro and edamame with the basil and mushrooms, skipping the green onion. Served over brown short grain rice since that's what was in the pantry.

Berry Burst Sorbet

This was a great base, but 1C sugar (or splenda) would be too much. Per other reviews, I only used about 1/2C and thought it was perfect. Just taste as you go!

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
I changed this a bit - and hate reviewing recipes after altering, but the base (broccoli and dressing) is great so I'm breaking my rule. I blanched the broccoli which retains the bright green color while keeping it nice and crunchy, and takes away any of that weird aftertaste it can have when eaten raw. I used craisins to add a little color and liked them much better than raisins. Didn't add the bacon and didn't miss it. Finally, used champagne vinegar and thought it was lovely.

Healthy Garden Salad

Reviewed: Jun. 12, 2009
This is absolutely fabulous! I've actually made it twice in a week since finding the recipe since my garden is overflowing with cherry tomatoes and cilantro. First time I added diced red pepper and the second time I added diced avocado. Loved both versions. You really can't go wrong with this recipe - it is amazing!!

Best Marinara Sauce Yet

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2009
this was super-easy and great tasting. your backsplash and washcloth will thank you, however, if you remember to put a lid on the pot... mine are still a little grouchy with me. I did add a little brown sugar, but otherwise stuck to the recipe. can't wait to make this with my own tomatoes this summer!

a great tasting recipe that's so easy my 'hates to be in the kitchen' husband could - and did - do it with wonderful results. do make sure the butter is very soft before beginning.

Quiche Lorraine I

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2009
Loved the flavors of this - the cayenne really added some nice spice although I didn't measure and probably got a bit more than called for. Per previous reviews, I used about 1/3C heavy cream and 1C milk with the 4 eggs and was pleased with the consistency. Also caramelized the onions first. The only change I will make next time is to pre-bake the crust a bit before filling.

This was great. I made it twice and loved them both - first one as written, second with no banana and I used HD vanilla honey and granola frozen yogurt instead of the plain yogurt. Very different, but also fantastic!

Creamy Spinach Tortellini

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2008
A little bland, but great basic recipe to tweak to taste. Halved the cream cheese and (skim) milk; used a 16 oz bag of frozen spinach - added to the onion/butter after mostly sauteed and did not pre-cook or drain the spinach to simplify things; added garlic powder and Italian seasonings. Loved it with fresh garden tomatoes and threw in some Italian style turkey meatballs for a little more flavor. My 12mo old ate it up!

Peppered Cilantro Rice

Reviewed: May 8, 2008
really great and easy. my 12 month old kept signing for more! used a bag of uncle ben's 'ready rice' (brown) and squeezed in half a lime, but other than that made as directed. Just needed to add a little salt to taste at the end since I didn't cook the rice.
