About this Cook
I have been married for four years to my wonderful husband and have two little boys. I work with Campus Crusade for Christ and also get to be a stay at home mom, which I love.
My favorite things to cook
I *love* to bake--baked goods and desserts are not only my weakness but also my art.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Baking cookies, cakes, and desserts for parties and company
My cooking triumphs
I made my first wedding cake in Dec. 2005. It consisted of six cakes--two red velvet, two carrot, and two white--each on tiered pedestals, covered in white frosting and red roses. I was pretty impressed with myself. I've also won the top prize for baked goods at our county fair twice.
My cooking tragedies
Many times, just before I'm about to entertain someone for dinner, whatever I'm cooking overflows in my oven and fills my house with smoke and ruins what I'm making. It's really frustrating.

Slow Cooker Fruit, Nuts, and Spice Oatmeal
I really wanted to like this, but the texture was less than desirable (pasty) and it wasn't sweet at all. My husband and kids didn't like it either, and I ended up throwing almost the whole crock pot of it away.

Jalepeno Cheese Dip
The flavor was pretty good, but I thought the garlic salt on top of the garlic was a little overkill. I would cut the garlic salt next time. But the thing that ruined it for me was that after it sat for a few minutes, the liquid grease pooled on top of the cheese...a lot of it. Even after I tried pouring it off it was still there, and every time I took a bite it was greasy. I don't know if substituting cream cheese for mayo would help, or using a non-fat mayo, but I wouldn't make the recipe as is again.

Garlic Broccoli Spears
I think it was great as is--perfect combination of garlic and lemon.
