I started to become really interested in cooking when I found out I had high cholesterol levels. I found that by making things myself, they were often healthier and better than anything that is store bought.

My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to do is baking. I've always had a sweet tooth, but I've also been very conscious about my health. I have therefore taken recipes over the years and converted them into some really great dishes. I like experimenting with flax seed, whole wheat flour, splenda, and other healthy ingredients.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom is from England so I've grown up with some traditional English dishes. For example, in the winters we often have a typical roast beef dinner served with roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and lots of vegetables. My mom has tried teaching me how to make Yorkshire puddings, but so far mine have come out flat and dense. Also, on Christmas, we have the traditional English Pudding which we drench with brandy and light on fire. This isn't my favorite dish, but the white sauce that goes with it is very tasty.
My cooking triumphs
I think I've made some really good cookies and cakes. For instance, I took in a batch of coconut oatmeal chocolate chip cookies (which I had modified the recipe) to my school, and they were a huge success. People were asking me to bring in more the next day.
My cooking tragedies
I've had a couple tragedies, for instance I substituted coconut oil for butter in a cookie recipe and they came out revolting (I think I had to through them out). Another time I was making brownies and I didn't realize that I only had one egg until I had already started. I decided I could substitute some applesauce and low fat cream cheese for the missing egg. Bad idea. They came out tasting like flour.
