I love cooking. But I really love eating.
My favorite things to cook
Anything that involves chopping a lot of vegetables. I like making soups, stir-frys, salads, as well as dishes that do not begin with the letter S.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom says she's a terrible cook but she makes a killer deviled egg. And while some might call deviled eggs outdated, we perfer to think of them as retro. She also makes good pie. Really, in 18 years of eating mom's cooking, the only disaster was the time she mistook powdered sugar for flour when cooking fish....My dad is a great cook, although now limited by a cholestoral-phobia. My husband will make sushi if I throw a big enough fit. We don't have any kids, but our dog, Clyde, likes just about any kind of food, especially if it's been marinating in the bottom of the garbage can for two days.
My cooking triumphs
I love a slice of grilled eggplant in sandwiches. However, you can cook it without dirtying a pan by putting a slice or two in your toaster! This really works and has not yet caught the house on fire.
My cooking tragedies
Tragic but true. My husband put a pan of chicken in the oven the other night and fell asleep on the couch while it was cooking. I woke up to a house full of smoke. The glass on the oven door had broken from the heat. So no baking until we get a new door.
