About this Cook
stay at home/ homeschooling mom of two boys aged 8 and 4.
My favorite things to cook
anything sweet and dessert related
My favorite family cooking traditions
march 18 is the alexander/sandor name day in Europe..as my in-laws are Hungarian we celebrate it every year. my addition to this is making a Brandy Alexander Pie...every year it gets better!!
My cooking triumphs
aside from the brandy alexander pie...my next triumph is the eggnog cheesecake i found on this site!! this is a christmas tradition now!!
My cooking tragedies
my first cheesecake attempt was painful.. the batter oozed out of the springform pan all over the counter and the floor..of the batter i saved from disaster, it oozed out of the pan inside the oven!! no one told me that there is a wrong way the install the bottom of the pan before locking the buckle on the side!!

Ruth's Grandma's Pie Crust
the best way to make four whole crusts with this one is to roll it into a log and cut and weight the pieces with a kitchen scale, that way you know they are perfectly separated. i rolled one portion out with plenty of flour and managed an even layer for perfect pumpkin pie. flaky, but not crumbly. the remaining portions i placed in ziplock bags and froze them, as i rarely make pie with two crusts i can make three more good pies with this batch. Mixes well in stand mixer.

Perfect Pumpkin Pie
only four starts so far, because it didn't seem to have enough spice flavouring to it. i baked it for much longer than listed because a knife or toothpick never came out of the centre cleanly, after a while i took it out anyway and the centre was creamy but not raw. will try this one again with more spices. used Ruth's Grandma's pie crust recipe found here. nice and flaky but not crumbly

Spicy Pumpkin Bread
it was a great change to find a loaf that tasted more like a cake then a dense bread. wouldn't change a thing!
