About this Cook
I live in Maine with my husband and baby boy. My education is in Psychology and I have spent my years since college working in Special Education. Now I use all of that education and experience taking care of my son. We enjoy our days together and make frequent trips to playgroup and library story time. At home I enjoy playing with my baby, reading, researching online, baking, sewing, and crocheting.
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking but my true passion in the kitchen is baking! I have always enjoyed baking from scratch and that love has paid off recently. When I became a stay at home mom I needed to save money anywhere I could so I started baking my own bread every week. When my son was a few weeks old we discovered he had issues with soy and milk protein. So my choice was to either cut those from my diet or put him on formula. Needless to say I have been making EVERYTHING myself ever since. Now I am in search of the best allergen free recipes I can find.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The night before Thanksgiving we gather at my mother's house to bake pies. It started as my Mom, sister, and I but it has grown much bigger since. Now we have our own aprons for the "Turk-eve Bakery" and have expanded it to include my grandmother, aunts, cousins, and friends.

Summer Squash Puffs
A great way to use up squash from my garden. I used a few suggestions from the other reviewers. I shredded my squash and used it without precooking and pan fried the fritters in a little bit of olive oil. Very tasty!

Peppy's Pita Bread
Easy to make and very tasty. It takes a little practice to figure out how long to leave them in the bag so that you get a pocket. Even when mine end up pocketless they are still tasty.

Chocolate Sauce
This recipe is a good start but it is much better when made with milk. I tried it with 1 cup of milk in place of the water like other reviews suggested and it worked well.
