Butterfly Frosting

Reviewed: Feb. 11, 2009
Very good. I don't have a mixer, so I don't really enjoy making frosting. I mixed together everything except the butter and sugar, then creamed and alternated. Once I started adding the liquid mix, the stirring was much easier than with most frostings. I added about a tablespoon of corn syrup, I find it helps cut the 'powdered sugar' taste. Easy to color, easy to use, didn't form a crust too fast which is nice (I was sprinkling sugar etc).

Baked Spaghetti

Reviewed: Feb. 9, 2009
It was great. Everyone loved it. I subbed ground pork for the ground beef and used a combo of cottage cheese, ricotta cheese and sour cream. Wouldn't have minded a little more sauce but the flavor was great.

Just like eating a candy cane. I used SKYY vodka and added a touch of blue food coloring--going to give it to a friend that likes it in his hot chocolate :)

Sausage Linguine with Ginger Pumpkin Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
Very very tasty. I took a few liberties with seasonings, but mostly followed the recipe :) I used fresh ginger instead of ground, and cooked it with the sausage and extra onion and garlic. Also my sausage was sage flavored. I added a dollop of sour cream to the sauce, along with parsley, a little ground ginger, some rosemary and a bit of sage. Turned out very good, thanks for the recipe!

Pumpkin Maple Pie Supreme

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
My first real pumpkin pie that worked! This is a great recipe. I love maple syrup, but I did not think the taste was very strong--I used some 'real maple syrup' from one of the local apple orchards. Maybe next time I could add just a little maple extract. Anyway, great recipe, thanks! Oh, I used Never Never Fail Pie Pastry from this site for the crust.

Apple Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
This was really yummy. I followed the recipe exactly and tried it both warm and cold (I prefer it warm), very good! I'm going to try adding some different spices in with the cinnamon next time. I had a bunch left over after our party, so the next day I mixed it half and half with Vernor's Ginger Ale and OMG it was awesome.

Slow Cooker Thanksgiving Turkey

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2008
Moist and yummy! I know this is a major change, but I used a can of condensed french onion soup instead of a can of gravy; I highly recommend this if you are looking for something a little different! The gravy I made with the resulting juices was soooo good. Excellent recipe that made our Turkey Day much easier! I had a half a bird instead of a breast, about 5 lbs, and I cooked it on high for an hour then turned it to low for about 4 hours, then held it on warm for another hour while I finished everything else up. Tasted great, thanks for the recipe!

Bread and Celery Stuffing

Reviewed: Nov. 27, 2008
Perfect! I used less chicken broth (about 3/4 cup), and I added some chopped mushrooms. The only thing I will change next time is to cut the celery smaller; I didn't care for the texture of large chunks of celery. Our Turkey Feast was a success, and this recipe was one of the best! Thanks!

Egg Breakfast Pizza

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
Excellent! I only made one, and I used real bacon on it. For the soup I used 'Cream Soup Base' from this site. My crust was 'Pizza Crust I' also from this site--it bakes up nice and thick. I only prebaked it for 5 minutes and I don't think it was quite enough; the bottom was pretty pale while the toppings were golden and delicious. Nonetheless it was cooked through and I got a compliment from DBF :) Thanks for a great recipe!

Spaetzle II

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
Pretty good stuff! I made the dough as stated. For pinching, every third dumpling or so I dipped my fingers into some flour; otherwise the whole glob just kept sticking to my fingers. I made them a bit bigger but they were still cooked all the way through; I cooked them in beef broth with a clove of garlic added in. Sprinkled with parsley right before serving; next time I will try adding some herbs to the dough itself. So good for how simple this recipe is, thanks!

Sauerbraten I

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2008
This was soooo good! Thank you so much for the recipe! I did pretty much everything as stated, but only soaked for 4 days, then dumped the lot into the crockpot and cooked it on low all day. I had to use a spatula to get it out, it was so tender. We had a bunch of people over for supper and each and every one said how good it was; some more than once!

Apple Crisp II

Reviewed: Nov. 16, 2008
Every guest that tried some loved it. Mine turned out a bit watery but I used apples that had been frozen, thawed, and not drained enough. The flavor was wonderful! I always add a dash of cinnamon to the crisp topping part; other than that the recipe was made as stated. Mmm! UPDATE: Made this again with fresh apples, and it still came out a bit watery. Next time I will cut the water in half; but honestly, it's a nice syrupy consistency that is great over ice cream! This time I added 1/8 teaspoon cinnamon and 1/8 teaspoon allspice to the topping.

Creamy Cinnamon Rolls

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
Yum! Super easy. I skipped the nuts as my boyfriend is allergic. The frosting tasted a little too much like powdered sugar for my taste so I added a little bit of corn syrup and a dash of cinnamon. This was so simple for what I got, and DBF was very happy with his breakfast in bed!

Honey Wheat Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2008
These were so much better than I expected! (Isn't that terrible?!) They are soft and full of flavor. I used chunky peanut butter and I think it helped a great deal with the texture. I like them as is, of course, but I am thinking for more of a treat I will try some brown sugar next time; doesn't need a lot. I made half my batch with raisins and they are really good too! I used wheat germ instead of bran and there was a bit more egg in mine; I halved the recipe but used a whole egg because I'm lazy. Anyway, these are yummy and my son will love them! Thanks!

Tropical Chicken II

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2008
I made a few changes and thought this turned out pretty good. To the juice mixture I added a small onion and a dash of garlic powder; I marinaded the chicken all night and all day (cut some slashes in the chicken to absorb more flavor). Then when grilling we brushed with the juice every so often. I cut it into strips and served over brown rice; the tropical flavor was definitely there!

Pizza Dough I

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2008
Loved it. Baked up nice and thick, but without having to mess with rise times! I added a dash of Italian seasoning. UPDATE: Made this again. This time I had to knead the dough to work in all the flour; once kneaded I divided the dough in half and rolled out two smaller circles. Prebaked for 8 minutes, then lowered the temp to 350 to cook the toppings and melt the cheese.

Amish Friendship Bread III

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
I enjoyed this recipe. I made two changes; I omitted the nuts as my boyfriend is allergic. I also substituted pumpkin puree for the oil. The bread did get brown long before the inside was done; 40 minutes in I turned the temp down to 325 and gave it another 15 minutes to cook it all the way through. The taste is great though, just the right amount of cinnamon and apples. UPDATE: Made this again, using the exact ingredients as the recipe states. I put some in muffin tins and they took about 15 minutes to bake.

Very tasty; couldn't taste the alcohol at all though. I had to add extra milk as it was a little too thick for my blender. Also, I used cinnamon ice cream which made this extra yummy. :)

Onion Strips

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2008
These are excellent! I used a thicker style crust. They turned out rather like cheesy bread, but with sweet onions and swiss the flavor is out of this world! I used olive oil rather than butter, and couldn't help but add some garlic while softening the onion mixture. Excellent and simple finger food, thanks for the great recipe!
