Fabulous Homemade Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2009
Love the flavor! I cut it down to 24 servings, which would be 2 loaves, and used one loaf to make turnovers filled with leftover pork. Baked up the other loaf as stated, turned out great but needed a bit more time in the oven than stated. I brushed with melted butter before baking. Oh, and my whole wheat flour was organic whole wheat pastry flour, which has a nicer texture. Awesome easy bread, and I love that you don't have to knead it :)

Extremely simple but soooo yummy. I only had mozzarella cheese, and I had to add some fresh cilantro on top when all was said and done! Served it up with lime wedges, lettuce and salsa verde.

Hoot Owl Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 29, 2009
These are super tasty! And, beyond adorable. I wanted to make some nut-free, so I pressed a candy corn into the cookies right when they came out of the oven for beaks. Also, for some I pressed a black m&m over the chocolate chip eyes while still warm from the oven. Lots of fun things you can do with these, I can't wait to show everyone how cute they are!

Thai Chicken with Basil Stir Fry

Delicious! I made three changes; sesame oil instead of olive oil, portabello mushrooms instead of shiitake and rice sticks instead of jasmine rice. We both enjoyed this dish and I wish I had made more! Thanks for a great recipe that I will use again :)

Basil Tomato Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2009
These were a huge hit with the men in my life! I followed the recipe exactly and had wonderful results. At one point my boyfriend came into the kitchen and had to taste the pan of filling...he wouldn't shut up about how good it was and I had to chase him away with a spoon, he wants me to make the filling and put it on spaghetti and pizza too. But, he ate about 6 of these rolls himself, and my 6-year-old son had 2. So I guess I will be making them again and often! Thanks for a wonderful recipe!

Great flavor! It took some time to get the egg yolks into the dry ingredients, but after that everything went off without a hitch! I put whipped cream on top which made just the right amount of sweet; next time I want to try a crumb crust :)

Amazing. Only made one change; out of thyme, subbed marjoram. Too many people trying to change this recipe; using all the store bought stuff makes it a whole different pizza. Definitely worth the extra effort!

Great flavor, although I did add a few extra touches. Some herbs, garlic powder, plenty of salt, and fresh parsley and chives to top it off! Made a great meal with some fresh bread. Next time I will probably add extra bacon to please my man :)

Easy to make, tastes o'k. 40 minutes is way too long though; mine was a bit dark and crunchy.

Cuban Water Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2009
Turned out amazing! I cut the recipe in half, which calls for 4 cups of flour. I could not get even 3 1/2 cups in; I tried and tried! The first 2 cups were bread flour, the third was whole wheat pastry flour, and the rest was all purpose. Nice crusty outside, soft on the inside, smelled and tasted wonderful! Next time I will make the whole recipe :)

Rich and Creamy Tomato Basil Soup

Very very good. I had to use milk instead of cream, and I also had to halve the butter. I upped the basil and used about 8 romas because mine are small. Great flavor that got a genuine compliment from DBF; thanks!

Excellent flavor! But there must be a trick to adding the batter to the oil; most of mine just imploded and became snakes rather than balls. I added cinnamon sugar right after pulling them out of the oil...Mmmm!

These were good, I did make a couple changes. I used whole wheat pastry flour and I added a little bit of brown sugar. Also left out the pecans, and after the milk wash I sprinkled a little white sugar on top. I was kind of surprised but my boyfriend enjoyed them :)

Slow Cooker Chicken Taco Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 12, 2009
Very tasty! I put my chicken in frozen, and after 3 hours took it out and diced (personal preference to shredded). I used Sam Adams Boston Lager for the beer, and frozen corn instead of canned. I used the Echols taco seasoning recipe in the first review, but went a little light on the crushed pepper flakes and chili powder (neither my son or I like very spicy foods). Everything else was as stated. Great flavor, not too spicy (I was worried about all the canned chilis in the tomatoes). I liked it best with lite sour cream stirred in to make it creamy. Also made a great dip for the 'Hint of Lime' tortilla chips! Picky boyfriend ate quite a bit, so I know he liked it!

Very tasty but way too salty. I did add a half teaspoon of sugar (I made a half batch) and used frozen corn. Next time I'll try them with about half or less of the salt. Also, took almost double the stated time to bake.
