Potato Soup with Spinach Dumplings

Reviewed: Jul. 8, 2009
I loved it! The soup would have been great, awesome on its own...the dumplings were a whole new dimension. Yum! My dumplings did fall apart a little but they were so tasty I really didn't care. Followed the recipe to a T, it's awesome, thanks so much!

My Grandma's Shoo-Fly Pie

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
I liked it o'k. Almost too sweet; my dad didn't like it at all. He loves pie so I thought I would surprise him on his birthday with this old fashioned recipe, which he had never heard of before...he managed to eat a piece but said he wouldn't be taking any home with him. Since I'm the only one who liked it, won't be making this one again--

No-Fuss Cinnamon Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jun. 30, 2009
This is so amazing! I love to complain about how picky my boyfriend is, but really, he never likes the crust on any of my desserts. The first thing he said about this one? "I like the crust!" I about had a heart attack :) I love how it's rich but not too rich, and cinnamon is a nice different touch. Definitely a keeper, thanks!

Savory Chicken Sandwiches

Reviewed: Jun. 10, 2009
Yum Yum Yum. These are awesome! I didn't have any bone in breasts, so used a family pack of thighs. No other substitutions, other than being out of buns so used toast instead. These need nothing! They are great, and I can't wait for leftovers. UPDATE: This time I tried using a whole cut up fryer, and it worked out perfect again. Served it up on onion buns...mmmm!

Oatmeal Whole Wheat Quick Bread

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I cut the recipe in half, and added about a Tablespoon of garlic powder to it. I ran out of honey after 1 teaspoon, so I used 1.25 teaspoons of corn syrup. That may be what gave this a sightly off taste. My batch did not form a 'soft dough' of any kind; it was definitely batter, so I plopped it into a greased mini-loaf pan and cooked it at 450 for 20 minutes. Came out perfect!

Tarte a L'oignon (French Onion Pie)

Reviewed: May 21, 2009
This is amazing. It's a little much for a weekday dinner but I can't wait to make it for friends! I used a HUGE Vidalia onion and 3 little yellow onions, and next time it will be all Vidalias; they add the best flavor. I loved the addition of the nutmeg, it really gives it a special something. Thanks for a super recipe!

Ham and Swiss Braid

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
This is so yummy! I made one change; the store was out of ham so I tried this with roast beef and sliced swiss. Excellent! The pickles add a nice bite. I love the dijon in the dough also. I had to re-read the braiding instructions a few times since I have never made anything like this before, but once the light dawned it was so easy :) I can't wait to try this with ham, thanks for a wonderful recipe that impressed my picky boyfriend!

Oatmeal Sandwich Cremes

Reviewed: May 19, 2009
Excellent! Although some found the filling too sweet. The cookie alone is really tasty, nice cinnamon flavor. I had more filling per cookie than I thought I would, so go ahead and lay it on thick or else find somewhere else to use the extra. Followed the recipe to a T and I love them! Thanks for a good one--

Spicy Basil Chicken

Reviewed: May 1, 2009
My boyfriend loved it, said it was one of the best dinners I ever made :) The only thing I didn't have was chili oil, so I added crushed red pepper to the olive oil I browned the garlic and peppers in. Served over rice noodles. I loved the fresh basil flavor and did not find it too salty, although I did not add salt and pepper. I have been commanded to make this one again, thanks for a great recipe!

Chewy Chocolate Chip Granola Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 30, 2009
Addicting! I did not have quite enough peanut butter, so I topped off the measuring cup with (about a tablespoon) honey. The only other sub I made was to do walnuts instead of marshmallows. They are a little crumbly so next time I will try pushing them into the pan a little harder, to make them more compact and something you can eat on the go. I did cut the recipe in half and cooked in my 8x8 pan for exactly 25 minutes. Thanks for the recipe!

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic

Reviewed: Apr. 29, 2009
Extremely yummy. I only used 3 chicken breasts since mine were huge; otherwise followed all directions. The flour dredging didn't seem to add anything, as most of the coating came off while cooking even though I tried to mess with the chicken as little as possible. Seemed like a lot of garlic but it was not overpowering at all; directions didn't say so I just slivered each clove into 4 pieces. I did sprinkle a tiny bit of flour into the sauce at the end to thicken it a bit. This turned out great and I will make it again!

Sparkling Grapefruit Pie

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
Very nice, fresh flavor. I made one major change; I used lime jello, which made it look like a Halloween project but tasted awesome! Did not have whipped cream to serve with it, but it made a nice light end to a dinner of brats and beer. Thanks for an interesting, yummy recipe!

Citrus-Honey Green Tea

Reviewed: Apr. 23, 2009
Very good. Tart but good. I did double the honey because I like a sweet tea (still came out a bit tangy!). Also I put some looseleaf green tea in my tea ball along with some grated lemon zest, since that's all I had, and steeped that together before adding all the other ingredients. Good way to get your vitamin C, that's for sure!

Spinach Tomato Tortellini

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2009
Nummy! Schwan's makes a good 6-cheese tortellini and I'm always looking for a new way to make it. This recipe is just the right combination of rich and fresh! I can't wait until my garden is going and I will have fresh basil to add; the dried basil just doesn't do as much for this dish. I did have some fresh parsley this time around, and it added a nice punch. Thanks for a great recipe!

Sue's Two-Chocolate Chip Cookies

Pretty easy (my boyfriend made these all by himself), one of the sweetest chocolate chip cookie recipes I have ever tasted! He didn't want the white chocolate chips so subbed all semi-sweet, and they were pretty rich.

Amish White Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
Easiest, yummiest yeast bread ever! I used one loaf to make Bierrocks and cooked the other as directed. Followed all directions exactly, and the bread came out perfect (second rise took a little longer than stated). Slightly dense and just a little sweet; I will make this again to go with some creamy spinach dip. Mmm my mouth is watering!

Bierocks (German Meat Turnovers)

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2009
Great stuff! I did some substituting on the filling; I had some leftover roast, so used that instead of ground beef, and I had no cabbage. I did add some canned mushrooms and some fresh baby spinach. Every ten minutes I brushed them with melted butter, which made them soft and flavorful. For dough I used half a recipe of 'Amish White Bread' from this site, which is a slightly dense, sweet bread. Turned out wonderful, thanks for a great recipe!

Berry Crumb Bars

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2009
OMG so easy, and good! Used a mixture of the 'bottom of the bag' leftovers of frozen fruit, thawed out a bit, drained, super! I always use butter flavored Crisco sticks. The last time I made these they didn't brown as well. Also, as another reviewer said, the crust doesn't taste its best on the first day; give a day or two to develop the flavors. I have added a bit of minced ginger and some dried rosemary to the fruit filling and it really ups the flavor ante!

Great flavor! I love the addition of the honey, it really gives it that special something (I love honey!). I did have to substitute frozen strawberries for fresh, and pineapple yogurt for the strawberry banana. Wonderful, thanks!
